The same criticism could be made of your choices though. Plenty of dull middle-aged men once rocked out to The Ramones for instance, while The Velvet Underground attract more than their fair share of pretentious poseur fans. Over a long career if you have more output that stands the test of time (not always easy to judge at the actual moment of creation) than stuff which most intelligent people want to forget then you can be considered cool in my book. Nobody's perfect & bands certainly can't help the kind of people that listen to them.

Nah. The 'rejected by punks' bit? Some punk was great. Some was ok. Most was shyte. Their rejection of the 'dinosaur' progressive bands was founded in either insecurity, posturing or simply playing-to-character. Didn't mean it as criticism, I love at least half the acts I mentioned, especially the ones labelled under pretentious, I just think there's a difference between being quality and being cool.
