My Etymotics ER4 Micro Pro wiring is broken - what to do

My beloved Etymotic ER4 Micro Pros are starting to lose sound to the right earbud, fizzing in and out. Ive had them almost 2 years and bought them in New York (so i imagine my warranty is out).

Is there anywhere in Ireland i can get them rewired or anybody who can do this work? Or should i send back to Etymotic?

    Any advice really appreciated!

Probably best to just buy a new cable off of them, they're cheap enough.

    Or upgrade...

Thanks a million PPC. I like the look of the Moon cable. Is it possible to get the earbuds terminated so that i can use a detachable cable with the ERs? I would prefer this over sending back to get the cable redone. Is there somebody in Ireland who does this type of work?

They already are, the cable is detachable...

Can you take a picture of yours? I just removed my ones no problem on ER-4PT.

Your other options if it is detachable are to get adapters.

The cables will come off, I managed to slip my thumb nail under the out part with the round but on the bottom and wiggled it until it came out.
Its very right, but should do so.

Ah, ive cracked it, thanks a million! So you'd recommend the moon audio cable, less microphonic?

Do i need an adapter or will it plug straight in?

Oh actually hmm, they don't seem to have the Etymotic bits any more, so you'd need an adapter.
There's loads of options on ebay too, I'm tempted to get one of the Shure or Westone adapters to get a nice cable.

And there is also http://apuresound.com/er4.html who just make ER4cables

They look great PPC. I wonder what the best cable is for the ER4s. The Silver Dragon gets great reviews but id be nervous about getting the wrong adapters to plug into the Etys.

$200 for a cable ... I'd rather spend it on getting custom reshells tbh from someone like Custom Art http://thecustomart.com/remold.php (silicone) or Cosmic Ears http://www.cosmicears.com/shop/cer/ (acrylic)

I had my ER4s reshelled (by a different company which I will not be recommending) and it improved the comfort significantly. Not much to say about the sound.

Alternatively you could just get a whole set of cheap CIEMs instead, where the drivers are actually intended for the enclosure :p

    Hey Brian

Id need to get impressions taken for a reshell, right? Any good places in Dublin?

I had mine done in the hearing aid place by the Abbey St Luas. I think you can get them done in Amplifon as well. Make sure you let them know you just want the impressions, not a mold taken from that ... or the earphones themselves that they'll probably try to flog you.

    Thanks Brian.

Any idea of a rough cost?

    €50 if memory serves.
