Does anybody know of a b&m shop in town that I can get a screen protector for a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7. According to Fonez website, they don't do them. We got the tab in PC World but they don't do them either. Any ideas?

There's a phone shop in the Galway SC on the Headford road that do phone repairs and sell screen protectors and covers and all that. Beside O'Brien's. If they don't have one you might have to look online.

Carphone Warehouse used to do these really tough rubber like screen protectors. Probably still do them. Call them and see if they have your model.

Have tried there already - they didn't even recognise the model of tab and had no suggestions where else to try.

It's just off the tuam road, on your right hand side as you travel away from Galway.

Yes it's out that way in the City North business park, next to Kenny Motors

Why not order it on Amazon? A new type which is a super thin layer of glass seems prevalent these days. They are very easy to install compared to the older film types. And since they're glass the tactile feel of it is great.

All you need to do is clean your screen, line up the protector, tape down one side of the protector to the tablet temporarily, and lift up and peel off the protective film to reveal the adhesive side. As it is a perfectly straight bit of glass and the tape is holding the alignment you get exact alignment with no worry about air bubbles.

Might just do that. Have never used the glass protectors before. Any time I used the film ones I get bubbles lol. Only prob with online ordering is we are leaving the country in 3 weeks so want to get it sorted before then. Will have a look at the one you suggested when I get home.

    Thanks again :-)

Does anywhere in Galway buy second hand books? Fiction/novels mostly. The book exchange place on Lower Abbeygate st. has been saying 'we're not buying at the moment' for about 15 years.

I notice they dont take popular fiction unless it's published in the last 12 months. I have some non-fiction as well though, so thanks for the tip.

Excellent, thanks! By any chance do you know what time they stay open until during the week?

No idea, I'd guess that they are kinda standard shop hours, e.g. 9-6 and late night Thursday/Friday. There's a number on the site I linked so you could give them a shout and confirm

Is there anywhere anymore that does new release blu rays?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭QikBax

    No. Not at the moment.

Zhivago had a blu ray section but it went about a year ago. Just DVD now.

This might sound weird, but it's a genuine request.

I'm looking for a black knob(s) for my hob.

Basically, we recently got a new kitchen put in and when the oven and hob (Zanussi) was put back in the four knobs that are on the hob have seem to have lost the dial (ring) that's numbered 1 - 10.

So, has anyone got any suggestions as to where I can get four rings for my four black knobs?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,345 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Try George Conboy on New Road. He usually has bits and knobs hanging around (see what I done there?). If he hasn't got them he'll know where to find them.

Try Des kavanghs on market street

    Hello,
where could i get an old coin cleaned (late 19th century) ? Is there any jewelers that would do this ?

I'd say you'd want to get it checked out by a specialist numismatist first. Think collectors generally prefer them not to be cleaned up. If you don't care about that kind of thing you can find a load of DIY coin cleaning tutorials on youtube etc.

You could ask in the museum down by the Spanish Arch.

I'm looking for a Mini HDMI to connect a tablet to a TV.

Argos and PC world are looking for ridiculous money of course (~€40)

There's one on amazon for peanuts (~€2) but I'd rather pick it up somewhere in town today.

Try dealz, conboy and perhaps lapteck would be my suggestions for that cable.

Just checked with lapteak, they have none and suggested argos, curry's or maplin, best of luck on the search..

Thanks very much Gremlinertia, I wouldn't even waste my time with maplin, Argo and Curry's are gouging, I would probably buy from them if it was under a tenner but €40 is just scandalous. What planet are the on? There's another normal HDMI cable in there for €140!! That is just daylight robbery.

I tried dealz already but the don't seem to have it, looks like I'm forced to shop online.

Sorry for the rant but I'm appalled at the swindling tactics of the major electronic retailers.
€40 euro for what's essentially ~25 cent worth if copper and plastic.

But again, thank you for being so thoughtful as to ask in Laptek. :)

Edit/ Just checked maplin's website. They have them for £1.65. I can't believe it, they used to be terrible for that kind of stuff.
