Silage - Fermented grass, caused when anaerobic conditions are created in a "pit". Caused by lactobascillus or clostridium bacteria. Can keep for up to 3 years if fermented correctly. Fed to animals.

This is why living in the country is way better than being a townie

So jealous, I've still two exams left!
Lad beside me bought a brand new silage wagon and tractor, they were hauling silage and broke a bridge with the weight of it! The PTO shaft sheered off the tractor!

I'm finished since Friday, I'm so bored already! nothing to do at all during the day :/
they broke a bridge?? what weight is she? they're flat out round here I was goin to bed the other night at half 1 and I could still hear them up the back road :p

yep, went straight through the bridge! She was about 40ish ton, could be more, could be less. Was a massive wagon, think its the biggest krone wagon in Ireland! Last summer I spent it bailing, wasn't finished most nights until 2 or 3!

When I saw wagon I thought ye were talking about an obese woman who broke a bridge somehow. :pac:

haha, everyone asks me why I want to do a mathsy course when I've a farm! Silage and cattle will never leave me no matter what do.... Not sure if its good or bad...
In fairness, I'm joking. Go get an education and follow your dream, there will never be a shortage of someone to work the farm for you when you're a Professor of Maths in Trinity! :pac:

Keeps far better (long-term) in a pit than baled, being slightly old-fashioned (prudent?) saved a couple of farmers I know from grief in the early 2013 fodder famine.

Nope, but I grew up in the country in the middle of farms, and understand something about the world when it's not been artificially covered by tonnes of concrete! :p

No, or at least it wasn't until you set my head working! >.<

Fond memories of arriving in farmer friends' houses and the pungent smell of cow shíte meeting you as you enter. Good craic could be had on the bales tho, respect for farmers because of this. Also because I'm a culchie and therefore, they are everywhere.
