Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We might have got away with cricket when I was in national school but we didn't know the rules back then.

But itf we as much as looked at a soccer ball, our lives wouldn't be worth living.

really??????? I know best than to ask your age but soccer was never a controversial sport in at least the past 6/7 decades or more!

It was in my national school in the 80's.

We goth the crap bet out of us one day when we were caught playing soccer instead of Gaelic.

Even schoolbags with English league club logos were banned.

unless you lived near the border, Im very confused by this! soccer was gaining huge popularity from the early 80s! gaelic was still the main sport but corporal punishment for playing soccer is flabbergasting! you were obviously in a backward school!!

maybe it was a Galway thing. My national school days in the 70s in Dublin city centre didn't bother with that sort of thing. We played football in the yard after school.

    Oh never mind.

sorry, whatttttttttttt??????? i was just conversing with you. All I said is I find it astonishing that your teachers took such action over what was becoming an almost national sport back then.

Am I right in thinking (their music aside) that there is a lot of snobbery towards Aslan, simply because they're from the northside?

Absolutely, but there seems to be more hate towards Aslan just because of where they're from - not just on boards. Broadsheet, especially - 'Oh, Christy is a drug addict, because he's a northsider, what d'you expect?' etc.

Nay, they are loved on the southside too.

    Not by me, mind.

What near death incident connects Brian Ferry and Christy Dignam ?

Both were nearly killed on planes.

There's an epic story over on Metalireland about that Brian ferry incident.... I'll see if I can find it

Here it is: can't put it in quotes due to phone etc

So yeah, read this story ages back about Bryan Ferry getting up from his seat on a plane and kicking the **** out of some mentalist who took a notion to break into the cockpit and crash the plane. Seems old Bryan took out this lad single handedly, was some sort of a hero and then went back to his seat once the ne'er-do-well was appropriately subdued.

So find myself sitting beside him on a plane once, can't remember exactly where I was flying but I'd managed to blag business class and it was a BA flight, maybe New York? So here comes Bryan getting escorted down by a rather starstruck stewardess and he sits down beside me. I was going to say "Avalon is class by the way." or something similar but instead decided to have a joke about his adventure on a previous flight where he single handedly saved the world from terrorism.. So I says to our Bryan, I says:

"Wow, I got lucky.. if any crazy stuff kicks off on this flight I'm in the right seat!"

A look which I can only describe as absolute supreme rage comes over Mr Ferry's face. I got hit with a newspaper and then he throws the in flight magazine at me. Goes absolutely ****ing bat**** and storms to the front of the cabin to demand to be moved. I head "That bastard over there..." as he pointed at me. I facepalmed and started to feel a bit stupid. They shifted him further north in the plane to where famous people are supposed to be and that was that. I apologised to the stewardess later saying I figure he must have misheard me or something (I paid the guy a compliment ffs!!) she just said it was okay but I should stay out of his way and use the toilets at the back of the cabin rather than walk past him. That was the last time I ever saw him.

So for whatever reason the other week there my dad reminds me of this. We all had a bit of a giggle and my mum points out that she didn't think Mr Ferry had actually prevented a terrorist attack but that "something else" had happened on the plane.. I told her the story as I remembered it and she disagreed. 2 minutes on Google later and it turns out that no, he didn't stop a terrorist attack but that a plane he was on with his family going on holiday spazzed out in the middle of the Atlantic and nearly crashed. He developed a fear of flying that nearly put his touring career on hold and there was just a lot of general negative emotion for him and his whole family... I realise now why he didn't take my compliment well.

    Ah, it's O'Hara's overpriced beers.

8 bottles of Perlenbacher from Lidl's for less than €8 gets the job done just as well.

Same price as any Irish beer atm, but Dunnes and Tesco regularly have offers on, Perlenbacher is nice but I get sick of it easily

It was nice to see the show in the flesh last night ... all the guests were decent. It goes by very quickly. Anna Nolan came across very well, like someone you'd like to hang out with.

It's interesting to see the background activities, like the Floor Manager creeping around behind the shot telling Brendan how long he has left for each interview. Brendan is very personable, asking us to laugh at the jokes even though they probably aren't funny :)

We got tickets for Bloom, I would have preferred a few bottle of the O'Hara's Stout but it's all good.

It's an enjoyable night out. It's easy enough to get tickets so if you like the show and can get to RTE on a Saturday Night, give them a shout (probably fully booked for this season, maybe when it comes back in September)

Despite my best efforts I don't think I got on camera :o Next time!

    What'd Cofy make of it?

I take it alcyhol was not allowed in the studio, Skid? And did you have an allocated seat, or was it a free-for-all to get a good spot?

No drink in the studio, alas (except for Brendan, who had his O'Hara Beer :( ). A naggin would do the job if you needed a bit of comfort.

The seats are assigned, it's a small studio so you get a decent view wherever you are.

But don't try and nip out to toilet during the ad break ... you would need to be really quick and if you are late back they won't let you return until the next interval.

Go before the show starts ... even if you don't think you need to.

Maria Doyle Kennedy performed this song just before the show went live ... I preferred it to the one she did for the viewers at home

I would echo what Skid it goes by so quickly. The comedian before the show starts had me in stitches, my sides hurt from the laughing.

It was great to see Neven, I really liked the guy with the puddings, hope all the producers do well.

Anna Nolan was such a lovely lady, very easy going and relaxed.

Joe was so well spoken for such a young lad. I wish him and his family all the best for their futures. I am ordering his books for my little girl.

I did not quite know what to make of MDK the song she recorded before the show was far better.

Davy Fitzgerald has been through so much but his determination is admirable.

I can't wait to go to Bloom, I've another day out to look forward to. :):):)

I had absolutely fantastic company and had such a brilliant time.
