It's still pretty shocking that JobBridge should be classed as 'employment'.

And presumably all of these schemes included in the QNHS employment figures at the end of 2013 were also included at the end of 2012.
So for calculating employment growth, unless these schemes were massively expanded in the year, their impact is negligible.

The JobBridge scheme came into effect in July 2011. In those six months 3773 people commenced an internship (See pg 5) http://www.jobbridge.ie/toolkit/IndeconReport.pdf

If my calculations are correct, and I would be grateful if someone checked them for me, that means that of the total increase in employment of 61,000 in 2013, 6% of the figure relates to JobBridge alone. I think 6% based on half a years info is a significant impact. Definitely not negligible when you also include the other schemes.

What six months? There are 18 months between the start of the scheme in July 2011 and Jan 2013. The employment growth figures I quoted are from Jan 2013 to Dec 2013. Jobsbridge would have been well established by Jan 2013.
Definitely not negligible when you also include the other schemes.
What net growth in the other schemes do you think took place from start Jan 2013 to end Dec 2013?

Seriously folks, why can't people just accept a little bit of good news for what it is, rather than trying to produce spurious (and plain incorrect) reasons to downplay it?

The CSO, in their email to me, stated that they used the JobBridge data from 2011. I pasted the email in it's entirety above. If we carry on the participants till the end of 2012, that's over 12,560 people (the report I also linked to ends Nov 12). That's over 20% of the "in employment" figure.

I dunno what your problem is but please explain the bold part of your post above. If I have made an error, I have no problem in acknowledging it.

No. No. No. The 12,560 is presumably the cumulative number of people who commenced a jobsbridge placement between mid 2011 and end 2012. (Jobsbridge provides for a maximum of 8500 placements at any one time).

If you want to attribute jobbridge placements in the Jan 2013 to Dec 2013 employment growth figures then you need to take the number of people who were actually on a jobsbridge at the end of 2013 and subtract the number that were on a jobsbridge at the start of 2013.

People before profit and the Socialists will need a miracle to get even one TD elected.

Not quite. Per yesterday's Irish Times poll one or other stands a chance of election in Dublin.

Every candidate stands a chance of election, but it would take a miracle of biblical proportions for either to be elected in Dublin. The third seat in Dublin is a straight fight between Childers, Fitzpatrick, and a Labour ministers wife co-opted to the EU parliament after DeRossa stood down.

Considering Sinn Fein after that conveniently timed Gerry farce that played out up north.

The Brits and their friends have on occasion known to be too smart by half. But who was doing the timing here? Mr. Adams presented himself to the PSNI at a time of his choosing. His answers were deemed to justify an extension of questioning, but for this to take place an application for an order for extended detention had to be made to a judge. The judge granted the order. I have heard no suggestion from any quarter that the judge acted perversely.
Who was most likely to benefit from all of this, and who was most likely to be damaged? Was either party likely to make a stupid miscalculation on that score? My guess would be that it has made no appreciable difference to voting intentions.
I wouldn't jump to conclusions about motives.
In all probability the Jean McConville saga will be played out in another forum.

If JobBridge say x amount of people commenced the scheme over a certain period of time then I'll take that info as factual. Twist it how you want, it is what it is.

You better tell that to the CSO seeing as you brought them into the conversation in the first place. You take what they say when it suits but when they clarified a query myself and another poster raised, you blatantly ignore what they say.

Sorry! My computer is half shàgged ( election fatigue, maybe ) and a few days ago started posting everything twice. Now it's doing it thrice. Expect four posts tomorrow. I believe we get extra stars depending on the number of our posts. In no time at all I should be the father of the house!

i am looking forward to an orderly election on Friday, which will eliminate the need for a violent blood bath.

First things first. Given the level of antagonism in this thread, lets hope we get to Friday without a bloodbath right here.

According to Lorraine's non-apology it sounds like the driver didn't have a permit, she said he made a mistake and it was before 8am

Once again the shinner bots flock to the cause in an online poll. It will reflect nothing like reality.

As regards Paul Murphy - never have I been so DELIGHTED to see any candidate lose a seat. This is a guy that was "installed" in the seat by Joe Higgins - talks the same amount of populist sh!te - has never had a proper job in his life - and couldn't even get elected in a student vote at his own college.

Don't ever pretend to represent those that have not elected you is the moral of the story I think.

Given there's a real risk that Mary Fitz (FF) might get the MEP seat in Dublin its Eamonn Ryan for me.

I'd hope anti establishment voters would think the same when using their preferences..

I think the present "Labour" party should disband and join FG.
They have left the old Labour principles and aims far behind.
In fact they are no longer the Labour party many had pride in.

I can just see the press release now.

"Due to a comment on the internet, we realise that we aren't the Socialist Workers Party, so we are obliged under the Man in the Pub laws to join Fine Gael"

    Probably not.

That is exactly like someone in the not too recent past voting PD to keep FF out. Let the dead bury the dead.

Surely you're not comparing the greens and the PDs!?

One went into power at a very bad time with FF, had a positive influence on planning, environment and equality, but were naive and failed to hold them to adequate account.

The other were an active bad influence on FF.. (which is saying something)
