It's not looking good for viewing from Ireland or the UK, it appear that the main activity will happen during day light hours on this side of the world.

"The predictions indicate a narrow peak (or several close peaks) at some time between 06h and 08h UT on the morning of May 24th, with most favouring the second hour. This will be during the hours of daylight from the UK, but would be well timed for observers in North America. Based on the narrowness of the peak, the ZHR seen pre-dawn by observers in western Europe would probably only be around 10".

    Hey

Any recommendations on where would be the best spot to watch the meteor storm Friday night? Somewhere without surrounding city lights would be good, is there a general consensus on good viewing locations for this type of event?

    Where are you based?
The Dublin Stargazers are meeting in Portmarnock outside Dublin on Friday Evening.

Otherwise, you will need a dark location with a good northern horizon.

As Pat said, it's not looking good for Ireland, but, you never know.

    Michael.

You'll need clear skies too. Something sorely lacking here!

    hi ankaragucu,

The original link was corrupted in some way. Try http://www.meetup.com/The-Dublin-Stargazers-Group/ which should now work.

Sky and Telescope have some more info at http://www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-news/observing-news/mays-surprise-meteor-shower/ while the International Meteor Organisation also have in-depth coverage at http://www.imo.net

    Clear skies!

    John

It seems the predicted meteor shower will be best viewed from North America.Between what hours will provide our best hope here in Ireland or are we going to miss out?

the peak will be between 6 and 8 a.m. Irish time but we may get lucky in the dark hours before then.If it's clear I'll be staying up-lucky to have very little light pollution here in darkest Donegal

We seem to be clouded out, but there is a live link to guys in Canaries, who have cams set up for later :)

Some interesting yapping on it too, while we wait.
