    Hi,

I'm just wondering what life is really like on DCU campus outside lectures.. like I heard that its not near any great places for partying and that the societies aren't as well structured as in Maynooth... so what is it really like?

Hey, in my opinion social life in DCU is fantastic. There's a ridiculous amount of great societies to get involved in and there's always something going on around campus.

The campus is usually buzzing everyday and there's always something going on. Everyone is friendly and the atmosphere in general is great.

I would agree with some students opinions that it depends what faculty you're studying in.

For example, if you are a science student you will have more hours in college and less hours to get involved with society life. Whereas if you are a humanities student you probably spend more time doing society based things than you do actually in class.

In terms of location, besides Trinity, DCU would be the most central university in Dublin. So it's easier to get into town to clubs etc. There's a student bar in The Hub which is pretty good and has some good nights every week. Across the road there is a pub or two, and then the bus stop is right outside campus to get a 15-20 minute bus journey into the city centre.

Give me a PM if you need any more help :)

Cheers for all that! With the course I've picked I reckon I'll have time to get involved in a few societies. I'll have to commute daily on bike from Portobello, so it'll be a pain in the arse if I have to continually just pop up to campus for something for an hour or two... so I'd probably hang about there and do productive things such as society activities while I'm there.
