    Fantastic shots Frostie.

That pic of the Ferrari really shows off how small the rear wings have gotten.

Man that's a sweet shot. Are these yours? Got any of Ericsson?

Thanks! Yeah, these are my shots, lucky enough to get track access again this weekend so gotta make it count! I'll upload a few of Ericsson later on once I'm back at my laptop

Here's one of Ericsson, I'll try and get a side profile of the helmet in this session as well

    That's Deadly!! Weather looks great there now...hope you're having a ball!:D

    Cheers for the Ericsson shot.

    Kvyat

Q1 is half done, and already Kvyat took a graceful spin and shredded his car's nose. No more damage than that so far.

PS: this is the first chance I've had to watch Monaco in several years, so I hope it's a good one. "Unusual" drivers tend to win here e.g. Coulthard won it twice, Webber in 2012 and Rosberg in last year's Mercedes.

PPS: great fun watching Magnusson put in a good lap, just 0.3s off the pace, then nearly forget to brake before Sainte Devote ...

Loving seeing them through the swimming pool. They're not carrying the same amount of speed through but they look like they're working so hard.

Massa's out of the Q-session and will be starting from the back, but Ericsson's already at the back, so I don't know what an enquiry will achieve.

Probably nothing, maybe a fine or points for Ericsson.

Rosberg accidentally came over all Schumacher in Mirabeau...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭Mike Litoris

Ah ballix, would have liked to see if Hamilton could have beat him. A cynic may say Rosberg pulled a Schumi but I don't think he is the type....and I am the cynical type.

Some epic driving from the Ferrari drivers having the wrestle with their donkeys especially through the swimming pool section. Surprised nobody has hit that Armco yet. Ricciardo impresses again while Vettle seemingly has more technical issues.

I think he wouldn't celebrate like that if he made a genuine error, he knows he just got away with a schumi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭Dampsquid

On the lap Rosberg made the 'mistake' - his position on the road was a lot further in from the left side of the track where he should have been. I don't think he intended to make the corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,475 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

I think Rosberg was on the limit and overdriving, although it looked clumsy don't think it was deliberate

I would be pretty sure rosberg had thought about what was the best course of action if he found himself in front before the final flying laps. You would have to be stupid not to think of that. If he happened to be on a not so perfect lap, creating a yellow flag situation would have to be given serious consideration.
Hamilton should have made sure he was in front earlier.

Whether it was deliberate or not, Ive a feeling this is the incident that we really see the championship race get intense. I think we could be looking at another Webber/Vettel scenario

just looked like he locked the rears to me, but apparently he is now under investigation by the stewards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

Lots of folk on the tv making a big deal over the yellow flag, i don't think there was anything sinister at play, Rosberg pushed too hard end of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭Mike Litoris

Either way its great. The whole Rosberg/Hamiton battle has really been ramped up by the media in the last week. Both drivers will be mega edgy after this. Could be fireworks tomorrow! :D

I reckon it's a safe bet now that Fernandes will pull out of F1 at the end of the season like he said he would if the team didn't improve.

but i had him backed to get pole, hope he gets it, ive zero moneys :( ha

It was a mistake. It had to be. By turning down that junction you can't know it will cause a yellow. You could see he was pushing. I think they are making a big deal of it saying it was done on purpose. I think it will make for an interesting battle tomorrow though! Rosberg was always the better option to be on pole for this race as Hamilton has been the faster driver lately.

Kamui was 1.6sec faster though... would have got the GP2 pole 0.5sec or so :pac:

I wonder if they'd be doing a bit better without the renault engine

The off wasn't deliberate. Nico was a little bit to the right of the racing line, but the front right locked, and he would never have made the corner. What WAS deliberate though was Nico reversing back onto the track as quickly as he did. HE knew the closer to the track he was, the longer the yellows would be out. And with it being at the start of S2, the lift any other driver would have to do would ruin the rest of the lap. Nico knew what he was doing AFTER he went off.

I see your point there but I can't believe he did that on purpose. All he could do was try to get out of there. If he just sat there it could have looked worse for him so he had to try make an attempt to get out. I guess we will never know.

Very risky to do deliberately against your teammate, they would be able to look at your telemetry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭_rebelkid

So it's not actually under investigation. The FIA are investigating whether or not they should investigate the incident.

    Only in F1...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭_rebelkid

    15:39

    Now it's officially under investigation.

If it was Ricciardo or Alonso that was going for pole when yellows came out would there be as much fuss?
    I don't think so ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,631 ✭✭✭mrsoundie

The telemetry will sort it all out, if he is off the line he has driven consistently then he is in trouble. Schumacher was sent to the back of the grid for stopping his car on the track during qualifying, so its been dealt with before.

I kinda of hope its only an accident, so we can see some grudge match racing tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭HeyArnold320

    Lewis believes it's a Prost/Senna situation.
He was on a personal best that lap and would have got pole in my opinion. I still don't think Nico did that on purpose though. Will be interesting to see what happens with this investigation.

Whether it was accidental or not, if I was Rosberg, I'd walk up to Hamilton five minutes before the start of the race tomorrow and whisper in his ear that it was deliberate. Just to really mess with his head.

Just announced no further action against Rosberg

Hamilton was at least a couple of tenths slower on that lap, despite him claiming it was a "pole lap".

The weather was quite improved from Thursday!
    daniel-kvyat-monaco-saturday-2014-4.jpg?h=683

Felipe Massa got tangled up with Ericsson at the end of QP1 and the damage meant he couldn't take part in QP2. He was pretty impressive at the chicane though at the start of Qualie...if in doubt just monster the kerb!
    felipe-massa-monaco-saturday-2014-1.jpg?w=1024

One of the good things about Monaco is that you can get pretty close to the action! Here's Fernando down at the hairpin!

    I see you!
    fire-marshall-monaco-saturday-2014-1.jpg?w=683

It amazes me every year at Monaco how far the drivers push and how close to the walls they get. Here's Jenson in Q2
    jenson-button-monaco-saturday-2014-4.jpg?w=1024

Lewis couldn't beat Rosberg to pole today but it's looking tight on race pace
    lewis-hamilton-monaco-saturday-2014-6.jpg?w=1024

He might have ended qualie with a bit of controversy but on his pole lap Nico was very impressive
    nico-rosberg-monaco-saturday-2014-1.jpg?w=1024

Vettel keeps his eyes towards the apex at Portier. Good effort in qualifying bearing him mind that he had limited ERS but the grid penalty will be costly tomorrow
    sebastian-vettel-monaco-saturday-2014-4.jpg?w=1024

Williams early season promise seems to have given way to being a midfield car again.

The formula1 website says rosberg was slower on that lap through sector 1 and Hamilton was a couple of tenths up
