Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Brian Hayes has a smug cheesy grin that you'd like to punch.

    Hayes is a tad smug.

He was more than a little smug in fairness

The only pieces of legislation I can think of that came out of Europe in the last 5 years that have any direct impact on me are...

Maximum cost limits for mobile call and data roaming
Gender equalisation on motor and life insurance
Universal phone charger legislation (technical issues with it to a degree)

    Anyone think of anything else?

Is it wrong that I find Paul Murphy very attractive?

He's Michael Murphy's nephew. The part time newsreader part time psychoanalyst.

For a socialist, he's certainly trying to get more than his fair share of the time tonight..

What can MEPs do about rent control? Stupid question.

There's too many local issues being discussed tonight that the EU can never have any say on.

The newsreader with the ability to say "Good morning" in a tone of voice that makes me sit up in bed at 6:00am on a Saturday, expecting to hear that something truly awful has happened.

Hayes was coached to drop the "tax bomb" on SF at any opportunity. Quite clever if a little obvious. However the electorate would be fairly thick and easily led for the most part so that's a punch landed albeit a subconscious one in many respects. The longer SF can be associated with bombs/violence etc the better it is for the other parties.

I've yet to see a convincing performance from Lynn Boylan that would justify her high standing in the opinion polls ! I would put Paul Murphy ahead of her in terms of their respective performances tonight . She's definitely not as sure footed or compelling as the SF South candidate

Nope, I heard it on Marion Finucane's show (I think)... I posted about it on the Radio forum about two weeks ago...

I'm guessing Lynn Boylan doesnt believe that Gerry was in the RA either, yeah.. I'm still looking for one Shinner who tells the truth..

Claire is doing quite poorly at managing this

I think Michael Murphy is an excellent newsreader, I love his voice. I'm not too fond of his counselling slots on radio though. I turned the dial recently and I miss Michael Murphy and Aengus Mc Grianna, the Newstalk newsreaders are very poor by comparison.

I think Claire Byrne is better than Miriam, she demands answers to questions. She doesn't get them but she still demands them

The way things are going, Sinn Fein could run Dustin the Turkey and he'd top the opinion polls.

Why should anyone vote for Nessa Childers when she can't tell them which grouping she is going to align herself with in Europe?

That's not fair on the Newstalk newsreaders. After all, they have to read the news from the inside of a prison cell.

At least that's what it looks like when I watch them on Newstalk TV.

He's the only one on there capable of making anything approaching a coherent point. FWIW I don't necessarily agree with him but at least he's showing a bit of passion in what he believes in.

Another dire candidate from Labour....losing votes with every syllable she utters

I agree, dont particularly like Murphy's politics but he seems like a decent sort with great conviction. The labour one was woeful.

Level of argument you'd expect to hear from someone on Liveline.. You just need to preface it with "I'm a taxi driver, Joe" and then terminate the argument with "They're all the same, Joe, that shower in Leinster House"..

The way things are going, Sinn Fein could run Dustin the Turkey and he'd top the opinion polls.

Agreed ! But a vote for SF as a protest against the other lot isn't doing anyone any favours ! Not a supporter of the FG/Lab/FF but more ways to skin a cat than sending SF to Europe . As regards SF holding balance of power in some local authorities , just watch the FG/FF lot join ranks and share the spoils and keep SF out in the cold - it's happened already in some areas

Does Jim Tallon turn up for anything.

Lets hope for his own sake he turns up at the polling station on Friday.

Could be embarrasing if he becomes the first person ever to receive null points in a Euro election.
