Looking for a cheap, no frills media player. Just need to play MP4, AVI and MKV files on a TV from a USB hard drive.

    Thanks :)

Does your TV have hdmi? Are you using a laptop or smartphone/tablet? Do you have wifi?

If yes, then get a chromecast in argos for 40 euro, install plex server on your pc and plex on your phone and stream that way.

Media stored on your mobile device can be streamed using avia.

The Sumvision Cyclone Micro2+ £31.69 (free delivery) a great quality near-universal format player with 5.1 coax capability and highly portable particularly using a large capacity flash drive. Best if the HD has its own power supply. The remote (an improvement on the Micro & Micro2 version) takes a bit of getting used to (narrow funnel aim wise) and is hard to read in the dark - minor quibbles.

The Micro3 - 8GB internal storage and capable of USB powered through TV is £39.61 (+ €3.50 Parcel Motel).

Just to mention though wireless, the cheapest option - if you don't mind sticking you HD into a PC with plex server enabled - is the SKY NOW TV box mod for €11.89 - it's 720P max and the Plex interface (ie. file management artwork, synopsis episode guide downloaded automatically for your content) makes it worth considering.

Von Haus by Designer Habitat link here
    Very happy with it.
The remote isn't the best- but the player can handle literally anything.
