Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm based on Southside, near Dundrum. I work in town if that helps, though I am not in the office this week on Thursday or Friday so if you want to do that option it will have to be tomorrow.

so, what are the food stops like anyone? is it literally a sandwich and tea/coffee or would there be bananas and cake and the likes? are the food stops in a community centre type place?
i like to "preventive" eat so always worry about the next meal! lol

Sandwiches, bananas, cake, tea/coffee and isotonic drink sachets to mix in your water bottle at the main stops.
Gels and energy drinks etc at some of the hilltop feedzones.

There is no fear of starving!

queues at earlier food stops tend to be large , long and time consuming. best to bring some cash and stop at next shop/ garage. queues at later food stops , tend to be quiter , no delays .

    http://www.met.ie/forecasts/5day-ireland.asp

Looks like a bit of rain and a south to north wind of wait for it, 27km/h at least that will be on our backs on the way home.

I'm looking at this (normally accurate): moderate southern breezes and some rain - mostly before lunchtime

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭cheerspal

    That looks alot better!

Unfortunately, it's looking a lot worse today:

Same amount of rain until lunchtime but more wind :(
LOTS of rain in the afternoon

It's still a little far out to be accurate, but Met Eireann, YR and Accuweather broadly agree. Whatever the truth, I doubt if it will be as good as last year :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 208 ✭✭Sammo13

Looks like the rain will come in from the south - attached YR forecast for Rathdrum on Sunday.. not good..

    http://www.yr.no/place/Ireland/Leinster/Rathdrum/long.html

Might be best to get going very early 6 - 6.30am and get most of it done in dry weather.. fingers crossed.

Also a newcomer to the Wicklow 200. First time in the event and really looking forward to it.

Question on start time - does everyone start together at 7:00 a.m, as website says, or do people roll up after that time and start at whatever time they are there at?

Not a mass start so once you've registered off you go!

Registration desk opens at 6:00am. You can start anytime after you register. There is no mass start.

Any need to wear the race number for anything? Or will the control card get you in everywhere?

Used pin on numbers before and they put holes in my lovely cycle jersey so don't fancy doing it again unless it is really necessary to get into food stops or something.

    What happens if you . . . . WIN
    . . . . nobody will know who you are . . .

The numbers are a necessary part of every event. They identify each participant on the route and ensure that the service van/mechanic, bonk wagon and general event management personnel assist you, if necessary, on the roadside.

Numbers also indicate if you are a legitimate participant in the event.

To make a long story boring... Numbers would not be ordered and issued if the organisers felt it was not necessary.

  • Registered Users Posts: 637 ✭✭✭mirrormatrix

I appreciate that, but isn't that what the control card does? I mean, the number no more an indicator of your participation in the event than the card.

For sure it is clearly visible on your back when riding but this is also unnecessary as the roads are open so you could just turn up without registering in any event. If there's a breakdown could you not just show the card to the staff to show you have registered to participate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

Yes, but out on the road they might only be looking out for somebody with numbers on if you need help :)

    +1

There will be thousands of cyclists on the road and event numbers are used for identification. Without a number the service vans/motorbikes will not be stopping to offer assistance and definitely will not pull in to enquire if you have a registration card.

Wear the numbers and avail of the backup support in the event of mechanical problems.

    Enjoy the day!

You could try taping them onto the jersey if safety pins are that big a deal?

Just wear the bloody number! And make sure it's pinned on correctly :)

First time at this event (doing the 100) and I see from the above posts there is no mass start at 7am. All the same, do most people usually start around that time or is there usually good crowds starting later like at 7:30 or 7:45?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭3102derek

God help them all today. It is bucketing down rain in baltinglass. The yard is flooded.
It gona be a nightmare day in the bike today.
And yesterday was a grand day.
