As the resident table nazi you should probably remove the quote tags to make it easier on the next person updating the table.

time to start printing out my split times wristband

  • Registered Users Posts: 76 ✭✭Plodman

Or you cound try pacebands.com. (I am not allowed to post the link as I am a "new user"). I have no affiliation with themn whatsoever. These are nice silicone bands from a US based company and they are preety cheap. I have printed bands in the past and covered with sellotape but the ink still seems to run when I sweat!!

time to start printing out my split times wristband

No harm to have one ready but I assume there'll be plenty on offer at the pacer stand? KG might confirm same.

time to start printing out my split times wristband

They've loads of these at the Expo for all the different times for free.
    Loads last year anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

only in the times that the pacers are running, of course

The way to do it is to have a mate running in the same band as you, both with pace bands, and then whenever the pacers hit a mile marker too soon you can complain that they're going too fast and will burn everyone off, and whenever they hit one too late your mate can complain that he's going to miss his target time and its all the pacer's fault :D

Should the complaining be done when you pass the mile marker or when your Garmin beeps it's auto lap?

Yes these have been ordered for the Pacer stand, will be distributed free to anyone who wants them. They should be different colours for each band again this year.

(Think they will be every 10 mins from 3:00 to 5:00, and I think every 15 mins or half hour from 5:00 to 7:00!)

So who's going out for a run tonight? Perfect weather for a dress rehearsal ahem. How will the singlet and split shorts hold up in the dirty weather?

Or you know, it's taper time, it'll be wet and slippery and risky and sure DCM always gets good weather, so really, it'd be counter-productive to go in that.

My prediction for DCM 2014 is to be minus a toe nail. Came close to losing her last year but I think this year....it's inevitable.
Checked my shoes, trimmed my nail... seems to just happen on long runs. Google is telling me I "claw my feet" when I run which sounds about right.

Anyway, I'm going to enjoy the last 12 days with my toenail....we've had some good times oul pal.

I'm fascinated by the fact that some people lose toenails so readily during marathons or the training thereof. It never happens to me. I get my share of foot problems, mind, just not in that area. Also, up to this year's conversion to low-drop shoes, rather than ASICS 21xx's or the like, I was running in shoes at least a half-size too small. The explanation is I have really big, tough toenails. What I cut off my big toenail when it gets too long wouldn't look out of place in the elephants' enclosure at the Azoo.

While I'm at it what are peoples plans for getting round to support the runners. My OH is heading to Milltown on the Luas to see me around the 20 mile mark, is there any where else she can make it apart from the start using public transport?

Would she hire a dublin bike? I plan to and should be able to hit about 3/4 spots and make it back to finish.

My wife did this last year, Milltown worked out handy for her, Luas from town - race passes by close to their. Jumped back on the Luas into Stephen's Green - By the time she got back into town she just managed to get to the finish line in time. She said it was tricky to get to the finish line in time with crowds etc.
    Hope this helps,

Bear in mind course has changed and there is even less time now.

I'd suggest the Dublin bike too, you can get points around the start, down to the Quays, on to somewhere outside the PPark, back to DBrook and up to the top of Eglington rd to get the turn out of Milltown onto Clonskeagh Rd, then cycle straight down to the bottom of Aylesbury Rd to get you outside St.Michaels Colledge school. It's a quick dash for both of you then to the finish (2miles) so your OH could skip St.Michaels if she wants and go to the finish after she sees you in Clonskeagh.

Can you change waves on the day? I'm in the 4.15+ and want to start in the 3.50 wave.

In short no, deadline for changes was 5.30 on Sunday or Monday, I did it at the weekend and got confirmation on Monday.

Thanks for the quick reply. Are they strict on the day about waves? I'm starting in the 4.15 wave, could I still run the marathon in under the 4 hours?!

Still a fair way off getting back to where I was but the long runs have been comfortable for a change so plan to enjoy this one.

Don't know how strict they are, but of course you can still run 4.00 starting in the 4.15 wave. Just start up at the front of the wave

They do have bouncers at the entry of the corals checking the bibs. Some people always manage to sneak in, though.

However, you might be able to talk to them at the expo and get your wave changed. I know at least one guy who got this done last year (or was it the year before?)

Yes, you can no probs as long you're OK with passing lots of people!

I started in the 4:10 or 4:15 wave, or whatever it was last year, and finished just north of 3:44 with a negative split.

TBH it wasn't bad at all ... all the traffic at the start forces you to limit your pace early on, which is a good thing. Then once it thins out a bit, you get the psychological boost of passing lots of other runners.

I'll probably have the opposite experience this year, as I'm starting in 3:50, but would be lucky to come home in sub-4.
