thanks - yes made the call last weekend. Turns out it was a good call cause I haven't managed to shift this cough yet & have virtually no energy. Could have pushed it I suppose (and might have if it had been my first) but would have crawled home, possibly injured myself in the process and had the recovery to face then (not to mention the risk of a Mr Slow type outcome). I'll get rid of this bug & decide on a new target - either a half or full early in the new year. Looking at Bohermeen if it's a half but would kinda like to do a full in Feb/Mar so will see. Hope to be back running in another few days :)

No - had just entered for Dublin on a Tuesday & got sick on the Friday - sickened in more ways than one. Haven't sussed out a Feb marathon yet.

Due to other commitments, I wasn't able to make it back and do this again. Easily one of my favourite races, support is terrific, great crowd. Have a great day all, best wishes.

My legs are freaking out! They're twitching (literally) and they want to run.
Had my last run yeaterday and rub down last night and that helped a little but I have no idea how I'm going to stay still for the next two days :p

This is my first go as well. Prep has been interrupted but Im gonna give it a go anyway.
I noticed Im down for Wave 2 '3:50-4:15' but I wont make it less than 4:30. Is there a strict policy of which wave youre in?

Also, getting to the start line with all those road closures. Is it best to get dropped off somewhere? Im coming from Blanch.

    h.

There's no problem moving back a wave on the morning.

Have a look at the map. The only road closures are those along the route so if your coming from Blanch the road closures shouldn't affect you.

On a phone so search is crap,

Getting somebody else to collect my number, what's needed?

"If you are unable to collect your race pack at the expo then a friend can collect it on your behalf once they have the following: your confirmation slip & a signed letter from you giving them permission to collect everything on your behalf. However we will only allow you to pick up just one race pack for another participant."

Few people talking about nerves before the Marathon. Lotta good advice out there. Hopefully I can add to it.
I might have put this up sooner but sure....
There are 3 P's to remember when you might have the jitters leading up to the Marathon. Nerves EAT energy so be
    1) Prepared 2) Patient 3) Picture.
Firstly Prepared. There is enough information out there about how the race roles. Read it.... and have your journey & equipment ready. Being prepared means you are self reliant and in control.
Second Patient. Many struggle with this 'taper week' as you will be running very little. Make a plan NOW for the week to fill the time with something that has nothing to do with running. Something that will take you out of 'state' as we say in the coaching world. Buy a really good book (not on running) - ideally you should be relaxing. An idle mind gives you thinking time about running BUT you can use this to your advantage (keep reading).
Lastly for nerves Picture. When running you are going to be taking in information Visually, Auditory and Kinesthetically for the most part. For visual people: close your eyes and imagine crossing the finish line looking through your own eyes. Imagine the crowd cheering you (auditory) and how great you will feel (kinesthetically). Let this be your only thought when it comes to the race (nothing negative). To help you override any strong negative stuff make this visual image bigger, brighter, the noise and cheering louder. Keep doing this until you feel the tingle of excitement in your body growing & growing. Feel like you have done it - visualise, hear and feel your triumph!! Do this over and over + OVER again. Add more stuff like family cheering you on. Make it movie size. No limits.....!! Some people are not visual so print off a picture of someone finishing the race and put a picture of you there in their place. Put this on your fridge or somewhere visible with a mantra like 'I will finish strong' above it (make up your own). Or put in your target time in the clocks (bit of cropping and pasting but it can be done).
The whole point is to make it as real as possible - like it is a foregone conclusion that you will finish strong. That is me finishing!! The power is in repetition... Many might be repeating the negative stuff. You have mastered that skill by now... so why not change the channel to the Positive.
Keep the good energy flowing and you'll do great.
If you follow the above you may enjoy the event all the more.
    Best of luck :)

Just to give people the heads up collecting race pack at RDS.

If you feel confident moving up a wave. Go to the information FIRST. I done the whole polite thing queuing up and then asking lady at the desk could I move up. Explaining my groups times and ability. However got the whole nothing we can do boll*x and so took the 3rd wave. After which I was downstairs getting a pacer band and the guy told me if I was confident I could do it they'll move you up. Pointed me over to information desk beside initial queue.

Of course so I was already registered there was nothing THEY could do.

Very annoying. But anyway, just giving people the heads up.
