Going in for a track session tonight. Should be interesting...

Was interesting!! 20 laps alternating between 5k and marathon pace! Tough but was with a group of similarly paced lads which made it a bit easier. Got it done and didn't feel too bad after it so all's well and good![/QUOTE]

Tough session so soon after the marathon. Why were you all back doing speedwork less than two weeks later?

Just did what we were told!!:) It felt good to be honest. It was a good way to blow away the cobwebs and get the head back into it as well. Personally I know I was still wallowing a bit in the whole "Dublin was so tough" mentality. Time to forget it now. Also we have a club run race coming up (Stook 10 mile) and I want to see if I'm in shape for it.

Inspired by Krusty_Clown's post last year, I threw together some stats for DCM 2014
Stat explanations (all times are chip only):
    • Runners - Total number of runners
    • N/A - No split available (no chip time registered at half)
    • Equal Split - Same time taken for first and second half
    • Neg Split - Number of runners who ran the second half quicker
    • Pos Split - Number of runners who ran the second half slower
    • % Positive - Percentage of runners who had a positive split
    • Avg Neg - Of the runners who ran a negative split, what was the average
    • Avg Pos - Of the runners who ran a positive split, what was the average
    • /km 10k - Average pace (mins/km) for runners up to 10k
    • /km Half - Average pace (mins/km) for runners from 10k to 21.098k
    • /km 30k - Average pace (mins/km) for runners from 21.098k to 30k
    • /km End - Average pace (mins/km) for runners from 30k to finish
    • Avg Time - Average finishing time

Just in case you needed any more confirmation that 2014 was a particularly tough year! Significantly slower times across the board, significant increase in the number of people running positive splits at all levels

That's impressive work :) Would you mind confirming where you got the stats from. I quoted one of them over on the novices thread and the accuracy was questioned. The results site at TDL http://www.tdl.ltd.uk/race-results.php?event=1806 seems to show approx 280 DNF's. I had mentioned Dublin having more DNF's than New York which had 50k entrants but that may be wrong (hopefully not!)

TDL is where I got them. And yeah, there were ~290 DNFs, the disrepancy is because I'm only basing my stats off chip time. There are about 65 people that have no chip time, but do have a gun time, didn't allow for that

Was just thinking about this yesterday. What if , instead of entering the park at the Parkgate St. entrance and doing the whole drag along Chesterfield Ave, the route went up Infirmary Rd and took the NCR entrance. I know it would be a much steeper climb but it's much shorter and comes very early in the race when everyone should be reasonably fresh! I'm not sure how it would effect the distance but it probably could be done without too much hassle.

Just checked it there on mapmyrun. That climb is only .3 of a mile and it is followed by a relatively flat stretch along the North Rd.

There is a long but slight drag along the north road. Plus it's much less scenic than chesterfield. I also think the steep short hill would be much worse for runners.

Lots of boardsies on setanta's coverage of the marathon this evening!
(Don't mention the walking at the RDS!)
