7 dead in Californian Shooting

Elliot Rodger's father is believed to be Peter Rodger, who was the assistant director of The Hunger Games and directed Australian film star Hugh Jackman in Oh My God.

He had for sometime been writing a 140 page manofesto in which he describes how he would put all women in concentration camps and kill most of them keeping some alive to breed forcefully with to birth more males.

A YouTube video police were studying shows a young man who identified himself as Elliot Rodger pouring out his hatred of women who have rejected him and “popular kids,” and threatening to kill people out of loneliness and sexual frustration.

“You girls have never been attracted to me. I don’t know why you girls aren’t attracted to me. But I will punish you all for it. It’s an injustice, a crime,” he said in the video, his speech punctuated by bursts of laughter.

He appears to have also been a racist and a facist. Elliot Rodger wrote a 140-page memoir-manifesto at some point prior to his shooting spree that killed seven. KEYT has also reported that three additional bodies have been found in Rodger's apartment.

What is totally NUTS is that his parents actually told police about numerous online written material by him and VIDEOS in which he threatens to kill people because of women behavior towards him. Police talked to him but at no point asked a psych professional to talk to him. THEY LET HIM GO ...given all the online threats and videos he left threatening mass murder that seems insane that they did not look into it further.

the memoir is peppered with his frustrations over women and his inability to understand why he was not receiving the attention he believed he deserved.According to the memoir, just prior to his 22nd birthday, he drunkenly got into a fight with some students at a UCSB party. He attempted to shove a group of both men and women off a 10-foot ledge because the women were not paying any attention to him. He ended up getting thrown off the ledge himself and was later beaten by students.

It is like lord of the flies? Where is the supervision? I know he was 22 but still.

That was available online....and STILL he had access to a gun ...and the police DID nothing ....even when his parents tried to get help for him. His was seeing Councillors but apparently the police did not think they should get a Councillor to interview him for them??? Where is the risk assessment?? He was obviously very ill. I have to wonder how much police dismissed Rodger's video rants because of the expectation that violent misogyny in young men is normal and expected. Men are the villains and are expected to be villains. You can't dishonor the male gender with this ....it's too freaking bizarre for a start ...but it's obviously just evil.

Despite his numerous online rants expressing a wish to go on a killing spree the police did nothing. Videos simply titled "Being lonely on Spring Break sucks" and "Why do girls hate me so much?"

Rodger's YouTube activity, highlighted that he was a subscriber to a multitude of pick-up artist and "men's rights" accounts, a likely perpetuator of Rodger's misogynistic worldview. He kept using terms and turns of phrase from that ideology.

Soumaya Akaaboune was his mother, an actress whose credits include the romcom Playing For Keeps and the Iraq War film Green Zone, where she appeared opposite of Matt Damon. Akaaboune appeared on the French edition of The Real Housewives.She seems a bit dim. If Paris Hilton was a mom or something.

The whole things reminds me of a sort of Paris Hilton type or something. The sense of entitlement of rich kids.

I have to wonder why progressive commentators on this story keep saying Elliot should have visited prostitutes. I thought progressives held the belief that the cash nexus causes alienation in capitalist society. In their utopian alternative, healthy, organic human relationships, freed from the intervention of market transactions, would become the norm.

Yet when it comes to their advice to male virgins, well, you only deserve alienated capitalist banging with prostitutes, buddy! No healthy, voluntary sexual relationships with women for you!

He did not want a happy relationship with a woman.... he is quoted as using the term 'superior one and alpha male' ...he just wanted control.
Men and women do not automatically deserve relationships or sex.

And society is not to blame for that.

If their sexual frustration makes them into grumpy men ...they themselves are to blame for not controlling the effect their desires have on them.

No one is entitled to anything. That does not make one unworthy of sex or love. But it is not an automatic right. His 'manifesto' states Male virgins have an entitlement to a woman's body as if they are entitled to sex...or well rapey sex

That is the problem society is telling men there is a sexual paradise out there and it's for the taking....not that there MAY be a loving consensual sexual paradise out there ..for the GIVING....

Apparently he lived a VERY privileged life.

He didn't watch a lot of porn. He couldn't handle the fact that other people were having sex. Even though he desperately wanted it, I think he was very repulsed by it also.
Actually, what I think he wanted more than sex was a "trophy". A woman so that people would assume he is sexually active and judge him on how hot his girlfriend is. I'd imagine had he got a girl, he would have been a terrible control freak.

Oh he was mentally ill alright. But a lot of men have shared some of his views at one time or another - that's the slightly scary part. What's completely irrational, however, is a mind that thinks in absolutes. It's clearly nonsense to think that every man or woman is the same. Certain societies are really flawed and people like this are slipping through the net. I'm no expert but I'd imagine California (or certain parts of it at least) is very material compared to most places, and that there may be more pressure on people to be successful in many areas of their life. Don't get me wrong, taking guns away would certainly help, but there's a far deeper problem that needs to be tackled.

Suing is the best thing to do in these circumstances - I mean, what else can they do? The guy behind it all is dead, so they're not going to get any justice for the deaths of their loved ones. If they sue, they can try and make a difference in their screwed-up country, so maybe it won't happen again to some other family.

The guy was completely deranged and you can't fault the parents - everything I've read is that they tried to do something about it, but the guy was too good at acting and the cops fell for it.

It certainly looks like he had a severe dose of narcissism. The fact he couldn't "get" a woman probably seriously conflicted with his high opinion of himself. As i said earlier in the thread he was unwilling ,or more likely, unable to see the faults in himself so he blamed all women instead.

The everything else i keep seeing from his manifesto seems to point to him having a huge ego and superiority complex which ties in with the whole narcissism.
