Colour in pots

i have lots of flower pots that i normally put bedding plants into for the summer. i now have less time and will have less money to do this every year. but i do like bright colourful plants in pots outside! is there any plants or small shrubs i could buy for these pots that grow every year? i can bring them into the shed…
