Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, I'm looking for inspiration. I'm having very frustrating times getting a seal on my basin waste in the bathroom. I've fitted the basin three times now and can't get to a situation where there's no leak from the waste.

It's a pop up waste. I'm using sealant top and bottom, with the supplied washer on both sides. I've refitted the sealant each time, cleaning the hole between. I'm about to pull my hair out at this stage, and hoping someone here can help.

Is there another way to seal these things?

Take the washer off the top.
Pump the waste fitting with silicone push it into place pump up from the bottom then put the bottom washer in place and tighten up when tight wipe off the excess silicone

    What type of servant ?
Silicon or Plumber Mate (soft) putty is best.
It has to be 100% dry, use kitchen paper.
Silicon between top plug hole part and sink.

Underneath sink: silicon - washer-silicon-nut tighten all and leave to dry.

I gave up on silicone. Tech7 all the way.

small bit round the lip of the outlet.

push through from underneath. Fill the gap round the outlet. Then washer then nut. Iv never had one leak

I've bought one of these; http://reviews.diy.com/2191-en_gb/11478125/reviews.htm

Seems to be the thing to go for. I've done all you've suggested twice already and the darn thing was still leaking! Might have been only the threads leaking but even if I want to replace the bottom nut and retighten it with PTFE tape I'd end up disturbing the seal...

Edit: It is the thing. Once I'd cleaned off the silicon, this took 5 minutes to install and there was no leak! Awesome thingamajig for the diy plumber.

Take top washer off if using silicone.

Forgive the silly question but is there a chance the basin waste is warped.

Does the basin have an overflow hole. If it does not it needs an unslotted waste

Outside that. Take the washer from the top as said above

It might have been warped - something definitely was because it wouldn't seal. But the basin waste sealing bung washer mentioned a couple of posts up really did the trick and I highly recommend them to anyone doing a basin waste install.

    Cheap, quick, easy, and effective.
