Our all seeing and all knowing Podgissioner must now set a draft time and date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Shouldn't we hold off on the draft until preseason is over in case a high profile player gets injured or something? There are some guys who we aren't sure are starting too.

Yeah I'd vote for us having a few preseason games under the belt before diving in

Just to update on the colouring competition.....

It carried on into this evening and I'm happy to announce that....due to me looking at a gorgeous Italian girl in a short dress, the competition was declared void and I spent the evening with nobody talking to me.

Still, it's a smashing city. Off to Tuscany on Saturday so hopefully the oppressive heat of the city will be left behind and the Italian countryside will be slightly cooler.

I sent around a Doodle, though it was for the next fortnight.

The only problem with waiting is there is only a few days between end of preseason and start of season and I won't be around for the whole weekend (I'm being slightly selfish here!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

I've always tried to draft after preseason week 3. Nobody important plays in week 4.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,489 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Ok, Doodle updated for 19-26 and 26-29 of August. So I figure the second week is best but we'll see about availability. Did you all get the Doodle?

I'm not long back from Umbria, the Italian countryside is absolutely magnificent. It should also be cooler then Rome

We are all waiting with bated breath though to know which child won! I voted for child 2, thomond was offering good odds.

Between Doodles and colouring competitions makes you wonder just how silly can silly season get :P

Child one was declared the winner...stewards enquiry will take place tomorrow morning after child 2 lodged an official complaint that child one had used extra crayons!!

The NFL site actually lets you do mock drafts against random people, for those of you who, like me, need some practice.

Yikes the RDS looks fairly strange when its set up for the Horse Show when you're used to seeing it set up for rugby

Alas, Lelantos has gone to the other side and joined the closed account club.

And therefore I have sailed the seas and come
To the holy city of Byzantium.

If I might quote Yeats, the rugby forum "is no country for old men" ;)

Big fan of Arrested Development, love all the little running jokes throughout the series.

Only watched season 1 of Forbrydelsen (The Killing) but really enjoyed it; the American version is actually ok as well, it is worth watching the two seasons of it to give a proper appraisal of it. If you like Scandinavian drama I would recommend Borgen (political drama) and The Bridge (crime/detective), up there with Forbrydelsen for quality.

The Bridge is "different". Kind of has me hooked, but the police chick is weird.

I'm watching the world rugby 7s at the moment. Seems to be a bunch of clubs from all over the world.

    Entertaining if poor so far.

Edit: God it'd be great if we could send over our academy players to this. Perfect timing as well.

It's fairly impressive as a stadium, just for sheer volume.

Had all my Clare family in the gaf this morning, trying to feed them all... Was like a scene from the Hobbit or something.

It's the best stadium in Ireland, particularly on days like this.
Aviva does better it for rugby, but that's because Croker wasn't built for a smaller pitch.

Yeah, I never get used to the size. I do a run up past it every 2nd day and it's just f'ing massive.

Ugh, tough viewing from a Limerick perspective so far. Well at least it's not effing Kilkenny we're playing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,308 ✭✭✭✭.ak

Great game, Clare were clinical even tho Limerick were far more physical. Should be a cracking final but I can't see past a Cork win.

Picked myself up an early 2000's Toulouse home shirt (proper collar and material) in the Irish Life today. Cracking shop for picking up old jerseys and the like.

If you're pubbing it in the city centre, I recommend -

    The Duke of York
    John Hewitt
    The Crown
    The Apartment (for cocktails)
    The Garrick
    The Morning Star
    Whytes Tavern

Duke of York deffo... its a Friday so it'll be quieter in town and you should get served quick enough. Its a nice bar... could be hard to find if you don't know Belfast but that's what google is for. Belfast is a compact city so everywhere is handy to get to

Northern whig too. You could plan a route which ties them all/ some in. Northern whig and the duke are really close

  • Administrators Posts: 54,184 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Northern Whig, The Duke of York and John Hewitt are all beside each other.

All the bars are within walking distance tbh.

I only just realised there was an upsatirs recently! Is the upstairs bit new? Good wee pub indeed.

Starting to rain in Belfast now, I think the forecast is pretty poor for later so bring a raincoat.

You do well to get a pint for £3.50 these days. But then thats still probably music to the ears of Dubs and Londoners!

Ah, 3.50 pints, how I miss you.

You don't know how lucky you are bilston. Be grateful for the benefits you have in life, there are always people (like me) who don't have them. :pac:

The price of a pint down here would make your eyes water at times.

Going in to a bar, knowing it would always have Harp, handing over 4 quid and expecting change. Those were the days.

I remember going out in cookstown years ago and getting pints of harp for £1!!

Full night out was less than £20 - that included entry to nightclub (£3), feed of pints, bag of chips and a taxi home!!

    Christ i'm old

*heads to fridge to look for beer to take away thoughts of being old*
