Is it? The poor man was 95 and constantly in and out of hospital with no quality of life. I'd rather dwell on his magnificent achievements, but for Nelson and his family I rather suspect this is in some way a blessed end to the last year or so of suffering.

You are right of course but I was being selfish. Apologies.
I was remembering the strong and dignified man who changed a continent ,if not the world, not the poorly man.

One of my hero's has passed away. RIP.

Yeah, as much as I hated losing the '95 RWC final, Nelson handing the cup to Pienaar is one of the iconic sporting moments of the 20th century, with implications far beyond the sporting field.

I actually bought this game off steam last week in the sale for this very purpose. Looks boring as hell usually but amazing with the rift. The possibilities for it blow me away

I have that. It's actually quite good, and turns into a company management sim later on, a bit.

Uh. I mean. If you're into that kinda thing.

    Aye it's good!

The voice control bit doesn't work in Ireland yet though.

FIFA is better on it than on the 360.

I'd rate Switzerland a chance to progress: Ecuador & Honduras, plus the erratic French in their group. Podge_irl and I may well be following Switz with interest...

It's a great draw imo. Pretty much every group is interesting.

Would give the Swiss a good chance of progressing, they're an effective team...would expect them to beat Honduras and possibly France. Ecuador in SA could be a difficult prospect but I'd say they should go through.

Tough group for England, with Italy and Uruguay two of the strongest teams.

Bad draw for Chile aswell, with Spain and Holland. Really really hope they go through, they play some quality football.

Hoping for Ghana, Ivory Coast, Colombia and Belgium to get through too.

And for good World Cups for Mignolet, Altidore, Ki, Ji et al.

Ha, terrible group for the english!

Anyone in groups B and D can count themselves very unlucky, some really soft groups compared to those two

I'd love to see an African team win the tournament. I guess Brazil will be favourites with the home advantage.

In fairness if you saw the expressions of the sky sports lads when they saw the draw come out, 'delusional' is the last word that springs to mind, they know they're fcuked

Incredible isn't it. The Detroit Philly game is unlike anything I've ever seen before.

Very happy I have no lions or eagles players in my fantasy line up. Eagles still working on getting positive yardage...

I can't imagine a rugby game going ahead in those conditions.

I thought it was a good idea to pick up Nick Foles for this week.

    He's minus points right now….

To be fair, he's a great pick up for the playoffs. Today is just a cluster**** there though.

These games are nuts. The lions and ravens games have exploded into TD fests.

4 TDs in the last two minutes in the Viks game. Was really hoping the Viks would take it.

And now the Pats might have recovered an onside kick with a minute to go.

As a lot of people don't get to watch the game on the Sunday and only get to watch the highlights on the Monday please use the spoiler tags in relation to giving away scores

After cruising through the regular season it's time for me to pay attention to this league again. My roster's started to look seriously dodgy with some players falling off, but I think Rodgers' potential return upgrades Lacy and Nelson massively, although my potential opponent actually has the man himself. The Gronk injury could not have come at a better time, might really undo Gnarkill.

Have a few selection headaches, RB and WR particularly.

You actually beat me once. It's only really the last few weeks I've only been spending a couple minutes on setting my team.

Gronk was my answer to Graham. Now he's gone I'm not so optimistic.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,489 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Clay or Cameron are your two obvious pick ups. I'd go with Clay but while both have big potential for huge scores, neither is going to be as consistent as Graham or Gronk. But then after Graham, Gronk, Davis and Thomas there are no real banker TEs.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,489 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Just looking at the stats there. Graham already has over 1,000 yards and 14 TDs. The guy is just ridiculous.

Fantasy playoffs and then actual playoffs. Fun few weeks ahead.

I see Hayden Smith has returned to Sarries from the Jets. Wonder if Okoye will get anywhere with the 9ers next year.

So they've done a review of GP offices in the UK and they found maggots on the floor of one.

How on earth does that happen? I have let my house get messy at times, but maggots on the floor? It just seems so ludicrous to me that it could be allowed to happen in that sort of environment.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,489 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

I don't understand how the first patient to see that wouldn't have left and made a big deal of it. I don't even understand what exactly would be attracting maggots in that setting. The mind boggles.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,967 ✭✭✭Synode

It could have been something as innocuous as an apple (or some other piece of food) hidden from sight that attracted them. Without details, it's impossible to comment on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,776 ✭✭✭P.Walnuts

Maggots are also used to treat gangrene or other conditions with infected wounds ( not sure if its done in UK, pretty sure its fairly common in US ), granted I think that is usually done in hospital but its not beyond the realms of possibilty
