Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cycling gear is bizarrely tiny, I bought XL despite the fact I'm fairly average.

Yea it's weirdly sized, that's why I find buying online to be a risk.

I found the difference between S and M to be just the length.

Nothing wrong with a bit of lycra justsomebloke.

Actually surprising how much you need the lycra shorts when you're on a bike. Without the gel padded bit around the arse you'd have a very sore hole at the end of it.

I did a 170k loop around the lake last summer. It wasn't padded enough.

Anyone here cycle heads? Anyone have experience with either Giant or Cube?

I got a Giant Defy 2 road bike a year ago.
Use it to commute to work (100km per week) & the odd 50-100km spin aswell.
It cost €1k on the Bike to work scheme, will be paid off shortly and has saved me a fortune on bus fares and helped me drop from 108kg to 98kg.
I've had zero trouble with the bike itself, got a lot of punctures for a while but then upgraded to Continental Gatorskins €40 each, and haven't looked back since.

Ugo, what lifts you doing with GVT?

I'm doing a German Body Comp programme at the moment.
    Going reasonably well.

define:balon - "the ability to appear effortlessly suspended while performing movements during a jump."

This is not something I would object to appearing in my office.

And here was me thinking of a romantic balloon ride where you jump out as it's taking off leaving her on her own for the whole thing, not grevious bodily harm or murder. Either you really don't like balloons or you need to have a long hard look at your relationship ak.....
    Hot air balloon eh?

Just been made aware of the benefits of beoir.org membership!

    http://www.beoir.org/index.php/beoir-membership/membership-benefits

For €10, you're certainly getting bang for your buck. Especially if you're doing any home brews of your own.

The 10% discount on drinkstore.ie orders alone makes it worth my while.

So do I! There's never a good enough opportunity for me to drink em, but they're lovely red ales from the Marlow Rebellion brewery around the corner. Problem is work or rugby always rudely overlaps with nights where I can sit at home and drink them in peace.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,110 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I have a load of different ones that I got as part of a craft beer selection box type thing. I keep meaning to drink them but they are the sort of thing you need to sit back and enjoy rather than firing them in to you during a match on the TV.

I do enjoy a beer with my dinner, but use the cheapo Heineken for that usually!

god no, but mostly that's down to the fact I don't really drink anymore. Bought a tray of Heineken for christmas and I still have over half of it left for feck sake ( the whiskey and captain morgan haven't fared so well though)

About 2 weeks before I moved out of my last place the landlord installed Pinergy.

It worked out at about 1euro a day was the standing charge ie without turning on 1 electrical appliance you've to pay 1euro a day. To put that in perspective my previous bill from ESB was 56 euro for 63 days......

We were meant to have an Eircom Technician call out to install their eVision bundle today. They never did and I've spent the afternoon on and off the phone trying to find out what's happening.........they've no idea.

I shall be sampling some craft beer tonight I think!!

There's no official grammatical rule stating that it's unacceptable, that I'm aware of.

Some teachers will say that it is an eyesore but it is actually fine, grammatically.

A general rule of thumb is to think of how you'd pronounce it. If you'd say aloud Williams's (phonetically Williamses) then it's fine to write it as an additional 's.

There are proper nouns, however, that don't have that. For example, "Sarah Connors' son was mates with the terminator". You wouldn't pronounce it "Connorses" so the sole apostrophe would generally be the way to go.

In short, there's no black and white.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,219 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatFromHue

I'd go with whatever the Terminator thinks is right myself.
