I wrote 6 pages for my essay on daoine oga because I had so much to write about. Will I get penilised a lot for writing to much , I am freaking out now!

My story was 12 pages long, there's no marks lost for overly long stories/essays, as long as you keep to the point and keep it interesting throughout. People say you make more mistakes the more you write, but you also write a lot of good thoughts down, so if you wrote a good essay you have nothing to worry about. If they wanted us to keep it short they wouldn't have given us 2 hours for an essay.

I'm repeating Irish after 9yrs can't wait till it's over I just really want the C for primary teaching and just found out there that we need to a) use quotes in our an triail answers and b) that techniques is definitely coming up. I didn't even know that was an option I have notes on Maire and her mother and that's it! It's what I was told would come up I'm freaking out now

How do you know techniques is definitely coming up?

HOLY CRAP! Did you just develop it on the spot? Which title did you do out of interest or are you a native because that's insane!

What's an appropriate length answer for the litríocht bhreise? I'm doing A Thig Ná Tit Orm so would 2-3 pages be adequate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,971 ✭✭✭✭peekachoo

I'd normally quote in an An Triail answer but I'd struggle to quote in a dramatic techniques question.

Haha yeah I'm not completely a native speaker but I did grow up partly in the Gaeltacht and I went to a Gaelscoil, in an english-speaking school now though. As for the story well I had a general idea in my head going in, but most of the details I made up as I went along, planning the next few pages as I wrote one.

For the litríocht bhreise I would say that's fine, I generally get about 5 done for that, but if you develop it well and give some nice examples theres nothing wrong with 2 pages, remember, it's only worth 40% of the marks of the essay, and ~7% overall.

How long do the pros and poetry questions have to be? 1.5 for ordinary level poetry and 2 for the higher+pros? Also, any predictions on these?

I wrote 4 pages on my A Thig Ná Tit Orm in the pre and I got penalised! :/ The correcter wrote under it "tá sé soiléir go bhfuil bua na Gaeilge agat, ach ní gá ach thart ar 2 ½ lch a scríobh".

For anyone who did the talk you'd give on the importance on Gaeilge, did you focus half on Gaeilge and half on culture? My essay is predominantly about the language and I didn't have a full point on culture, it is just weaved through the whole essay. Worried I'll be docked for irrelevance!

That's just their opinion, nowhere in the official marking scheme does it give a maximum word count, sure if your essay rambles on you might lose marks, but if you are giving a lot of details and backing it up with textual evidence, they can't fault you for being thorough.

All I'm saying is dramatic techniques better not come up! Can anyone list all of them?? I know crosceistuchan, teach na cuirte and iardhearcaidh

Is Irish just a case of writing down everything u know about prose/poems/an trial like it doesn't have to be perfectly worded right?

Plural of ownership so like hataí na mban - the women's hats

Often recognisable by two nouns together with na in the middle e.g. caint na bhfear (the men's talk) for example. This can also describe Ginideach Uatha (singular) for Feminine nouns too unfortunately e.g. imeall na cathrachbut at least if you have to guess it's a potential indicator of the Ginideach Iolra.

Dís and Spailpin Fanach... Seems like a relatively nice paper. Mandela comprehension too.

Good man Seamie, shows up where he wants!

Twas a grand paper, comprehensions were easy enough I thought? Daring to dream of an A :pac:

Had a feeling he'd show up :pac:

Yeah I thought the comprehensions were lovely, and the Q6s were lovely I thought? :)

What did everyone say for the grammar?
    On A I said: nach n-oibreodh, rinneadh
On B I said: mBliana na gCuimhneachán, Leanfaidh

Just looked at the paper now - your grammar is spot on. Being asked to identify a verb in the future in an Hons paper is not bad!

Omg seriously!?! I got them all terribly wrong in every reading comp ive ever done :pac:

Yeah they weren't bad questions! :)

Even though I'm dreading it, Spailpín Fánach is going to be there. Mark my words!

    I think it will anyway
What did I say peeps! :pac:

Was a nice paper overall, time is a bit of an issue though. The only question I didn't like was the meadaracht one for Spailpín Fánach. I just said it was an amhrán polaitiúil with comhfhuaimeanna.

I also just realised that I misread the aimsir fhaistineach verb as alt 4 and as a result I put in íocfaidh. I don't think I've ever had one of those wrong previously, but such is an exam situation. :(

When answering the comprehensions, if they ask for say one point do you still get full marks if you give two points quoted from the text? Or is that considered excess material, even if the two points are right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 160 ✭✭plmko

was not expecting Bean Ui Chathasaigh for an triail, winged it though

nah i'm pretty sure they don't deduct marks for having two points

I could have sworn it said briathar saor aimsir fhaistineach and I couldn't find on in alt 3 for the life of me so picked one from p4 instead and wrote them a little note :pac:

The meadaracht was the best part :D

I wrote about ochtfhoclach, rithim and uaim and then wrote out the first verse and put lines to show where the béim was :D

Not a bad paper over all! Was a bit stuck for stuff to write on Bean Ui Chathasaigh as my teacher never gave us out any notes on any characters! but i still got a decent answer! quite pleased to be honest!

I think if you're doing the speech the marking scheme allots 5 marks for an appropriate format. It doesn't say where this five marks is taken from, AFAIK.

Thought meadaracht was repetition and wrote a lovely paragraph on the repetition of 'an spailpín fánach at the end of each verse...woops..my bad! :P

I thought it was a grand paper 2. When I sat paper 2 in 2002 I just sat there for most of it. I didn't do any Maidhc, short stories, poetry or stair na Gaeilge.

This time around was different. I finished the paper (just about) and I was happy for the most part. I couldn't really answer the meadaracht question but it's only worth 9 marks so I wasn't that bothered about it. Dis and Maidhc were grand and Spailpin was grand for the most part. I was happy with the comprehensions and I even managed to get 2 of the 4 grammar questions right. I was stuck for time so I only spent about 30 seconds on each 6a question.

I think at the very least I'll get my C3. I think I did better than that but anything above a C3 is a bonus for me.

Nice one. I presume you want the c3 to become a teacher?

I thought the meadaracht question asked for only one example, so I just did it about uaim. Or am I totally wrong? ;o

I wasn't sure about that either, I just said it was based on the meadaracht of an amhran and then just rambled on for a while about the amount of beats in each line and all :P

Is the quality of Irish important in paper 2? I don't know why but when I was answering this paper it felt like I'd gotten every grammar rule and sentence construction wrong

Yep, I need it to apply for a postgrad in primary school teaching.

I had everything that came up on the paper learned off . It was plain sailing .
I felt like I took such a risk not learning poems and pros the came up before . Thankfully it was grand :)

    Help!
For the Leamhthuiscints do you have to radically change the text for your answer or is it ok to use the words from the text but change them a bit and add in parts and stuff?

As far as I know you can just lift it straight out of the text in the new syllabus.

You dont have to change the words at all except in question 6 where it says to write in your own words. You get full marks for copying the answer word for word from the text ( as long as its right obviously!) :)
