    Hello

Living in rented apartment and our couch has broken so the landlord has given us €500 to get a new one, any recommendations where to get one around Dublin or a good website that deliver ?

In Ikea you will get a decent sofa for 500. Any of the chain stores will just have **** for 500. Most stores that have "sales", tend to have "sales" so regularly, you can assume the "sale" price is the regular price.

The sale is a CON. they advertise couches at €800 and say the after promotion price is €1600 ans you save €800

the couches are pre order and you have to wait several weeks for delivery and they never stock them after the promotion.

any company who uses these shoddy sales technique should be avoided.

the best value couches can be found in the bargain corner in IKEA. they get the biggest reduction on Tuesdays.

Thanks everyone !! Should have mentioned ideally something wouldn't have to wait weeks and weeks for it or we will be sitting on the floor..................

Agree that the DFS sales are cons, but it's pretty much the same everywhere.

Ensure you sit in the couch in Ikea before you buy it, as some of their couches are "visitor couches"; you put visitors on them whom you want to leave soon :P

Check out Adverts and Donedeal too, sometimes you get real bargains for sofas on there, for €500 you should be able to get a l shaped or corner sofa in good nick, the type of sofa that would have cost €1500+ brand new.

Otherwise I agree with the bargain section of Ikea, if you're not fussy there is normally one or two lying there with 30-50% discounts

Just last week we got a really nice 2 seater leather sofa for 100 euro on Donedeal, excellent condition too !! Some good deals on Adverts too. There's a place beside Navan Shopping Centre on Abbey Road that do reconditioned suites at excellent prices, we've used them in the past to furnish rental apartments - prices that would make it worthwhile hiring a man with a van :)

Go to Harvey Norman in swords, in one corner they have all the display models, you'll get a lovely sofa for that money. Don't buy a cheap ikea one, usually crap. LL will probably want a recpeit for taxes so best buy in a store and not done deal.

I've yet to see a poor quality ikea product. What makes you make that wild claim?
There's a reason why they are so successful.

Our landlord got us a replacement couch from Ikea, and while it looked great for the first few months, it's now 18 months old and is showing major signs of wear. So it's a bit of a mixed bag in terms of couches.

Ikea has a range of products which vary greatly in quality and price. Their cheap beds / mattresses are just foam and way too soft, they are terrible. Their cheap sofa's aren't far behind.

Some Ikea sofas can easily be renewed by replacing the cover with a new one for around €40. Actually in many ways Ikea sofas should be a godsend for landlords- they come with a 10 year guarantee and all they need do is replace the cover every few years rather than the whole sofa. It's quick, easy and cheap and will make an old sofa look like brand new.

I'd agree with this, Ikea has some quality products but you usually have to spend a little bit more than the bottom price of that category to get them. Their €100 sofa bed is functional and does what it says on the tin but there's no way you'd want to be either sitting in it or sleeping on it for any extended period of time. But as an occasional bed that folds away it's great but if you want something that is actually comfortable you'd have to spend a good bit more than €100.

Exactly, the Ektorp range has been going for ever, is built like a tank and you can buy covers in a variety of colours, some of which are machine washable.
