Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Make sure to set a passcode on your Apple devices

Everyone should, of course, have their passcode enabled. But of greater importance is enabling 2-factor authentication if you can and making sure you have a secure Apple ID password that isn’t the same as, lets say, your recently compromised Ebay password.

Given that (almost) all of those affected have been Australians, or former Australian residents now living elsewhere, the current theory is that an app that is only available on the Aus App Store is to blame, through sloppy exposure of users' AppleID's and passwords, or through the app-providers servers being hacked (an app should not transmit AppleID details, and they therefore should not be on an app-provider's server, but there have been instances where badly-written apps were doing this).

Edit: further news is that password re-use could be the cause of the issue.

If you aren't using a password-keeping app like 1Password or Lastpass, there is no better reason than this (and stuff like it) to start. Having 20-character passwords that are unique to each login is the only way to go these days.

I also recommend registering a secret email address (that you never use for anything else) and set it as the password recovery address for all of your 'forgot my password' links. This means that if your regular email account is compromised, the hacker cannot use it to reset all of your other passwords.

Yes - exactly, the 4 digit code you use to unlock the phone from sleep

But how can this be so critical ? It is surely the easiest code to crack for hackers ... just four numbers ... ?

If you haven't got a passcode on it then the hackers, via iCloud and Find My iPhone, would be able to remotely put a passcode that THEY choose on it.
