Also i have been cut off social welfare due to a clerical error and will now not receive money until june 13th. Does anyone know a payday lender besides provident (dont want to deal with them) ? Payday loans make no sense, apr is usually like 5000%, you would be much better off not paying the bill, getting the bus instead of the car etc etc

Contact st Vincent de paul. They may help. A payday loan will only make things much worse.

You could always try and tell esb the situation, no idea how accommodating or otherwise they would be but maybe worth a shot.

You should call to your local MABS and they will help you with advice, letters etc. They are very good and will deal with the ESB, Banks etc on your behalf.

Good luck OP and don't despair.

    Please avoid Payday lenders

Do NOT go near lenders, they are a compete scam and it won't end well. You'll end up even more in debt.

I'm with bord gais, I noticed if I pay late there is no penalty, so there is free credit for a start. Probably the same if you're with electric Ireland. I don't have a direct debit set up though, if that gets refused bank will usually charge you.

For car tax, there is usually a two month grace period before the gardai will seize the car off you, you run a small chance of being fined for no tax, most garda would let you off if you're only a month or two out of date though I think. So there's another option for free credit, you will have to go in person to pay the motor tax arrears, can't do online, and you pay the 3 monthly rate rather than the discounted annual rate but it's an option.

For the insurance, you've probably no option but to pay it, some insurers require an upfront deposit when paying monthly but maybe not them all? Wouldn't advise driving uninsured

Just saying, doubt anyone got rich paying all their bills on time as long as there is no penalties involved

On the point of the ESB bill

I know from a family member who is a manager with ESB that despite them being slightly more expensive on average compared to the other suppliers, they are by far the most lenient when it comes to cutting people off. They try to give them as much time as possible before turning the power off

As said before motor tax, bottom of the list, don't park on the street or the parking attendant could give you a €60 fine for not displaying a valid tax disk. You will be able to sweet talk yourself through any checkpoints once everything else is in order. You will have to pay arrears but they are not that much more that the months tax anyway.

    Insurance! don't drive without it!!!

Rent, talk to your landlord, make an agreement to pay maybe 50 or 75% and an arrangement for paying the arrears. Make sure you make the next payment and it will ensure you are trustworthy if it happens again.
Do the same for the ESB. If they don't agree then tell them %50 is all you got and just pay that. There is no fines for paying less/late. You will have to refuse to pay you esb for several months before you get cut off.

Don't Fret too much :) we all go through times like these from time to time.

You can do a no-questions-asked reversal on a direct debit under SEPA rules.

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

Depends on the bank. BOI: http://personalbanking.bankofireland.com/bank/sepa/direct-debit-change-requests/ - under "Refund Direct Debit Payment(s)". Not sure of the process for other banks

Surprising to say the ESB are very helpful when you contact them before they start chasing you. They actually do provide flexible and affordable payment plans and may suggest the use of a pay as you go meter which is helpful for some folks.

I'd agree with avoiding money lenders as you have mentioned.

This is not a personal dig at you OP but the crazy planning policies in Ireland that have allowed house out in the middle of nowhere as the OP puts it are coming home to roost now. The OP is screwed because he lives so remotely. If he lived in a village he'd be able to walk the child to school.

OP: Is there any way at all you could come to some arrangement with a neighbour who has a child in the school to bring your child as well if you pay the petrol? You need to get rid of the car if at all possible until you're back earning enough to run it. Could you cycle with your child to school?

You already know that those payday loan shark crowds are only going to make things much worse. Chin up anyway...hope things get better for you soon.
