Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Raceblade mudguards damaged AL frame

I took my SKS raceblade removable mudguards off my alloy framed bike and found that quite a bit of damage had been done from where the mudguards rubbed/moved against the frame at the mounting points over the winter. I suppose grit get in there and causes the problem.

The paint under the contact points on the seat stays is now worn through in spots and feels lumpy and uneven to the touch. Clearly I should have put on some protective tape on before but unfortunately I didn't, I'll know better next time.

So my question is are there any suggestions on what to do to fix the problem and the best way to touch up the damaged frame paintwork. I don't want to make it worse of course.

I have thought of the following:

    1. Put some tape over the wear now and just forget it
    2. Carefully sand the wear down and apply some black nail varnish or enamel paint (its a black boardman frame)
    3. As in 2, mask off the area and use an enamel spray paint can, not sure of the make to use.

So any advice would be welcome I will try and post some pictures later.

Very light sanding/buffing, small bit of primer* with a nail varnish size brush and then the same with black nail polish. After that, clear tape over the contact points or some rubber strips like the ones you get with light sets, my frame has the same but it did not happen on my last one, I think its from resting against walls etc. and the rubbing from the moving mudguard.

*personally I would just wipe it clean and go straight in with the nail polish.

Same thing happened to me. Raceblades - damaged paint - nail varnish - clear tape - all good now
