Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When I bought my Yamaha XJ6 last year the dealer said service is very 4000 miles. When I had a read through the owners manual it said every 6000 miles. So I just assumed the dealer guy made a mistake.

Anyway I went to another dealer today to book it in for its 6000 mile service. Dealer tells me it should have been at 4000. I told him the service manual says 6000 and he said his computer was telling him 4000!!

Now im confused as to what my interval should be!! 4000 seems a little short don't you think?

By any chance would one be American and the other European?
I was looking at an American manual for my bike a while back and some of the service items were at different intervals.

Your engine will never wear out from changing the oil too soon though.
There is different service intervals depending on which market you are in, the US has 4k intervals for that engine.
    UK 6k intervals.
Personally, I'd stay with 4k thats enough for bike oil.

Bit cheeky of them to use the name XJ6 for a bike :p

    Miles/km confusion, perhaps?

They have stupidly short oil change intervals in the US market, but then (for cars) they often don't drain the oil properly but suck it out with a hose. Stupid and wasteful, but that's how they like it over there :pac:

    I'm thinking it's a km/mph issue as well tbh...

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

That's initially what I thought but the manual has 6000miles/10000km.
Its a UK bike so, well I dunno.

I wonder what would happen if I needed to do some warranty work down the line and they kicked up a fuss that I didn't keep the correct service interval?

Yeah any little thing with these dealers. I would just change it at around the 4500 mark, its not expensive to drop the oil out of it anyway.

They can't complain if the handbook they supplied with the bike is wrong.

I would believe the book / manufacturer over a dealer all day long. I've never had a fully positive experience with a bike dealer here.
