Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Shower Mixer Malfunction

I have a Shower mixer ( thermostatic I think ), the problem is that it only comes out cold - you can feel that the water coming from the hot side IS hot before the mixer but something happens inside the mixer that holds back the hot water??

    Notes on plumbing:
    1. solar tubes on roof
    2. cold water pumped into house from tank in garage.

    Thanks in advance to all

You don't say what type of mixer but I'm thinking a blocked filter on the hot inlet (if it has a filter) but most likely the cartridge needs replacing. If it's something like a mira excell you are looking at around €250 just to buy the part.

I thought that is what you meant. They have a cartridge in them and sometimes it needs replacing. Can you post a photo?

    That's a pity.
Basically if you have a dial on the wall it has a cartridge inside it. When they fail it is usually the hot side that fails. It's the same with tap washers or spindles. It's the heat from the hot water that damages them.
While you are waiting on your first 50 posts, why don't you take a good photo of the front & bring it to a plumbing suppliers, Davies, heat merchant etc. They might be able to identify the manufacturer.
