Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have put the game on mute. God love his the yank commentating with him, can you imagine having to listen to that for another 45 minutes?

I think the commentary is brilliant. Way better than the generic 'x passes to y etc.....'

Ray Hudson, normally commentates on Barcelona games and creams his pants every time Messi touches the ball.

My stream is Portuguese commentary ... I can make out Roy Keane to Celtic :pac:

This is going to end 1-0 to Italy on a counter.

    Ireland wasting chance after chance.

England as bad as they are wont have anything to worry about with this Italian team

    Ireland getting chances

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,561 ✭✭✭Duff

Long has to be the most frustrating player to watch in an Irish shirt. Maybe after McGeady.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,109 ✭✭✭Patser

Jaysus Long. 2 chances there to do something!!

Again to open that can of worms, you know Keane would have somehow scored

Hes off like a prom dress.

    Haha now Iv heard everything

Ireland should be winning at this stage. A couple of great chances.

Long is a very, very average finisher. The 3rd worst chance conversion % of all strikers in the Premier League with 5 or more goals the season just passed.

It's a pity because he has all the physical attributes.

Just adds to the frustration of watching him. He's more athletic than Keane ever was, faster, in a lot of ways more hardworking but when the chances fall to him he always seems to hit them too close to the GK (unless he's playing against Villa)

No, but they may have to worry about their first choice team playing in a competitive environment.

    Phew - offside
    And clearly so on replay

Aye, if he was a better finisher I think he'd be playing for a better team than Hull City. As you both say, he has lots of the other attributes.

coleman did brilliant letting him go there.

Forde has been a great find for Ireland since he seemed to come from nowhere after Given's decline. I know he's 34 but how come he never made a big team. Looking at his history he was back and forth between Irish and Lower English leagues. Has he just blossomed as he got older, or just been very, very happy/passionate when he pulls on an Irish jersey

Also not watching the Bein commentary but judging by earlier Leprechaun comments what did they have to say after Quinn's introduction - he absolutely fits the stereotype

Huge Italian crowd there. The Irish must be out numbered.

Cracking game and atmosphere for a friendly, I have to say. Very enjoyable.

    That Italian kit is horrible...

23000 attendence for a friendly game in a neutral venue. What was attendence for Turkey in Dublin last week?

Edit: Quick google shows official attendence of 25000

Italy are poor, only invention is the ball over the top from 40+ yards

It's virtually their second choice team though and after seeing Montolivo's injury they've been going in first gear.

Their full backs are ****ing woeful

Been impressed by Quinn. Composed and confident on the ball.

    Enjoyable game for a friendly.

    Good luck to Italy.

Italy have some really good players many of whom were playing for their place in their world cup squad today and considering how they started the match a point is a pretty good result for Ireland here. Now off to America to play Costa Rica & Portugal, it will be interesting to see what squad go on that trip.

Ireland had much better chances overall but sadly failed to convert, promising stuff though. Coleman is an absolute diamond

Becoming more worrying with every game.

Good performance by Ireland and I was encouraged by how confident they were on the ball.

We really lack a decent finisher though. Think Robbie would have netted at least two or three of those chances tonight.

Hoolahan, Long, Coleman, Hendrick and Pilkington very good.. Ward, its a no from me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 486 ✭✭DUBACC

Someone should just put an arm around ward and usher him away from the Ireland setup. It's astonishing that he keeps playing.

    But who replaces him ?

There was no winner in that match, but there was definitely a loser. You have to feel for Montolivio who is now going to miss the World Cup.

On the match though, it was an impressive performance, albeit against a team who did not want to pick up injuries especially after they lost the aforementioned Montolivio, and also Aquilani.

Very good performances from certain players like Pilkington and Long, and even McLean when he came on, but the stand out player for me was Jeff Hendrick for his work rate. The difference between him and Glenn Whelan though is that Hendrick can actually pass a ball forward!

I'd also like to see Jonathon Walters get a decent run up front. He's a beast up there who can hold up the ball and lay it off well.

Oh and, as was mentioned, Stephen Ward shouldn't be anywhere near the team but, unfortunately, his inclusion highlights just how depraved we are in the defenders department!!
