Septic tank / veggie garden location

Hi Hubbie has cleared a bit of land near the septic tank, as in within 6 feet of the concrete top section, and suggested I use it for planting more veggies. Hubbie reckons the proximity of the septic tank is no big deal. Are there safety guidelines about this though, I do not want to think of what bacteria we might be…
