I saw a 1913 Rolls Royce registered 13C20 in June 2007 (possible 2006) on the Gordon Bennett International Rally.

What number would it get if you went to re-register it next week,
    141-C-40001?

God forbid that the power-that-be would re-issue appropriate plates?!

What is the purple-coloured car in front of the Merc W123?
At first I thought it was be a Bitter, but then I spotted the orange side light - so I guess it's some sort of US-built car?

CORRect, Chev Monza or GM family :)

Re the 14 or 141, of course '14' means 1914 whereas a 2014 has '141' / '142' so the question doesn't really arise except if someone has say '10' on a 1910 car but I'd presume it's all covered somewhere in the regs

it was an Oldsmobile. I know as I parked behind the Merc and had to wait for the guy to move before I could get out

A gem of a car, spoiled by a crap reg number system devised by a pen pusher.

I'd like to know how he got the number out of sequence!
There was definitely not 13 other 1914 cars reg'd here pre 92..

paid a grand a guess....but surely you have to wait for the others to be used

What makes you suspect that it was registered before 1992?

Cos it's a pre #20 reg. Post #20 numbers are all reg'd after the original reg jump in circa 1992. Although I guess anything is possible with the registration authorities in this country!

I thought the first 800 numbers of the year plates were reserved anyway, like 65D820 would actually be the 20th 1965 car imported, excluding any ZV's.

If 14C14 was registered prior to .......was it 2000............the fee was only £250 for a reserved number.

No, it depended on the county and the year. Before the Dec 2011 change, quite a few Dublin number of the 1970s lot started at 800 from a certain date long before (other counties as low as 200. Some of the 1980s stuff started way higher, c. 8000s. If it was pre mid 1960s, it would start at 20.

It would seem to be pre '63 for the low 20 regs.
There is no consistent patten to any of it though.
As you said, most of the older ones jumped to 500/800 county dependant.

    I spotted 68 C 12 (Morris Minor Traveller) at Mosney on Sunday...issued between 1987-1992?

I also spotted a Ford Granada with the reg 'SV 37013' - when the tax disc clearly states 'ZV 37013' ???!

    I think your right there.
I imported '65 car in 2006 and got the reg 518, and I know someone else who imported a 51 car in 2008 and got 21, same county.

I know of a 1961 car that got a #31 reg before the jump, and another 1965 car that got 515 at the same time, at the time I was puzzled as to how this could be be.
