Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Good start by Galway. Then they let Laois back into it.

But Galway will win this yet.

Laois have been given a false sense of security, but it won't last.

Is it still 0-16 to 1-8?

Galway will surely win it, but would be a great display by Laois if they pull it off

Canning had a close range free saved. Inevitable defeat.

Is it true that if Laois do win today, they'll still have to go through the preliminary round in Leinster again next year? Ridiculous if true.

Ollie Turner has had a better game than Canning by the sounds of it.

Glad to be wrong but this win last year did us no favours. Gutted for Cheddar and Laois though. They deserved the win both times but just couldn't finish it. Can they be that bad against KK?

No Galway would have been in the preliminary stage

Did they though? They got beaten by a full 7 points last year. From the sounds of it (was listening by radio so wont pretend I know what went on) they had plenty of chances to win today but blew it

Same. Was there last year but Callanan's goal was very soft and similar to how it sounded today Laois were getting monster score. Seemed as though Laois drowned out the midfield and the halfbacks completely for almost the entire game. Big worries for the Kilkenny game (should they beat Offaly).

Not a great performance by Galway on paper anyway but not unusual for a team to struggle during their first game of the Summer only to improve dramatically after that so would not write them off just yet. That said they had a similiar game against Laois last year and they never really did improve after it.

    Just back from it.

Basically a carbon copy of last year, we have no game plan.

Instead of finding the free options out the field, our players just ran into space before launching a ball down to the FF line.

A.C seems to be sticking with his rotating forward line policy so I think any chance of winning the AI is dead already as we haven't got the forwards to be moving them around the place.
Any time we've tried this 'tactic' we've scored poorly and players have found it hard to impose themselves on the game.

I was hoping the reverting to it in the second half against KK was some experimental plan.

But no, straight back to it today.
Damien Hayes ending up at CF just shows how stupid a system it is, it was a joke seeing him land against Hogan in the league semi final.... notion hasn't changed.

Honestly think our two senior managers in both codes are holding up back due to being tactically inept.

Only plus was having Glynn backed for first goal, downer then realising the double the odds for a goal within 15mins is only applicable to televised games

I said during the week if Galway were messing around in the last 10 minutes or so trying to win this game it'd tell us all we need to know about us. As it was Galway scrambled over the line undeservedly.

Laois are getting closer to a scalp but there is no excuse for that today from a Galway viewpoint, Laois had played 4 games in the last 5 weeks, lost at home to Antrim last week, had a number of players playing u21 midweek, Galway were forewarned from last year, knew what Laois were going to bring to the table and got an ideal start, 1-3-0-0 after a few minutes.

The fact that Laois outscored Galway 16-4 in the rest of the first half tells its own story. We've seen it many times against good sides that Galway can't stem the tide when a team get a run at them but for that to happen against Laois even allowing for the wind is very poor.

I suppose we can be thankful Galway got the win, otherwise they'd have been in the round robin next year. I don't believe we have the players to win an All-Ireland at present but there is enough talent in the county to do better than this.

Hopefully with that out of the way things can only get better but things don't look right on or off the pitch when things start going against Galway and really having seen Joe Canning on a number of occasions recently, he still has touches of class but he looks like a player who hasn't the stomach for it at the moment. If he's not on song, Galway have no hope.

I'm afraid there is unlikely to be any trip to Croke Park for the senior hurlers or footballers of Galway this year.

Conor Hayes alluded to this attitude in an OTB interview Monday (http://www.newstalk.ie/player/podcasts/Off_The_Ball/GAA_on_Off_The_Ball/55013/1/whats_the_story_with_galway_hurling), saying that some Galway people feel that it is above Galway to have the play the Laois's and Westmeath's of this world in order to have a crack off Kilkenny. Perhaps due to years of entering directly into the All-Ireland semi-final.

Hmm.. don't see why. No-one I know has an attitude like this. They should be delighted to be entering the c'ship on an equal footing with all other counties and try to learn from every game they play, regardless of opposition.

What attitude? If Laois had won Galway would have been in the round robin next year.

With the sh1te Galway have been dishing up for years, if there is anyone in the county who believes we shouldn't have to play Laois / Westmeath etc. they'd need their head examined.

It was an important game for Galway to get but again highlighted how far off the pace we are at present. That's not to say I won't go to the Kilkenny match hoping for another out of the blue win:o

Due to the "overly pessimistic" outlook Galway fans have regarding the hurlers I think you wouldn't find a single person in the county who thinks this side is above playing Laois, and that would be before Sunday where they nearly pulled off one of the biggest shocks in decades.

However Loais deserve alot of credit for their performance. They are a hard nut to crack in Portlaoise where the pitch is small and tight, they take out their corner forwards to crowd out the middle and their half back line and then score long range points from their own half back line. Take them out of Portlaoise to a bigger pitch where they cant score from that long range and more open spaces I think it would have been a much different result. Added that they have played a good few championship matches in recent weeks, they had strong momentum, had a vocal crowd behind them urging them on and it being Galway's first championship match it was always going to be tricky.

I also think Laois' attitude needs to be called into question. Well able to get up and raise their game for a perceived big team, yet they get well beaten by a much weakened Antrim a week previous, in a game they were much expected to win even before Antrim named a team littered with youngsters. It's also been said that their performance in London previous to that left a lot to be desired. All very well scoring moral victories against bigger sides, but progress won't happen if they can't put in performances against teams on their level

They beat Offaly in the league though... are they a perceived bigger team? Maybe they are, but with the problems in Offaly, Laois could realistically expect to beat them. And did beat Antrim too. I know they lost to Antrim this time, but they were already through... and Antrim really aren't a terrible side. When they turn up, they're capable of giving teams a good game- In McManus, Sheils, Johnson, O'Connell, they have some top players.
