    Hi guys,

I have an old Dell Dimension 9200.

Currently running the 6600 core 2 duo 2.4ghz.

    Have 4gb of ddr2 ram and a 9600gt.

I'm looking into upgrading this for the short term while I save up for a better build. Then i'll turn this into a media pc.

I have access to a Q6600 and an extra 4gb of ram.

My main question is, would a nvidia 750ti work with the pcie16 in the 9200?

And would the processor and extra ram i mentioned help? the ram is the same speed as my current ram.

Thank you for all your help in advance guys.

You say you have the "6600", do you mean the E6600? If so definitely put in the Q6600, huge boost.

My Q6600 is a home server unit and I quite remember for sure, but I think the board supports 4GB, and its questionable whether all 8GB setups will work. Also remember that board supports DDR2 which is more expensive than modern DDR3. You'd need 4x2GB sticks, so the chances are if you have 4x1GB right now you'd have to remove the current stuff to upgrade.

    2x 39GBP = 78GB = €96. Not cheap for 8GB of old slow ram.

4GB of ram is OK - make sure you are using 64-bit Windows.

GTX750 is better choice over the ti, the difference isn't big between them and the 750 is a decent amount cheaper. That's up to you though!

Core 2 is still pretty efficient for the vast majority of games, so you'd be surprised at what you could achieve with the GTX750 without changing anything else - but the E6600 is quite old alright, can be changed to either a Q6600 for about €45, or an E8500 for about €25. If you already have a Q6600 just call it a day with the GTX750.

    Thanks guys,

    much appreciated:-)

i'll try the extra 4gb and q6600 that I can cannibalise from a mates pc, and throw in a 750 to replace my old 9600gt.
