John Deere drive on lawn mower - brake light stays on + engine cuts out

    Hello there,

the brake light is staying on on a John Deere drive on lawn mower. Model LR135F Auto Type NSB J92 Hydro 6.3kW. While it starts ok, engaging the cutter or pressing the forward / backwards pedal causes the engine to cut out. While the brake is not locked on, the brake light is staying on and this is sending a signal to cut out the engine when the cutter / drive is engaged (this is an operating safety feature of the mower when working).

Has anyone come across this / all suggestions gratefully accepted before I go stripping.

you going to have to take a look and see if the brakes are engaged at the wheels. this is a safety feature, another place to look is the electrical sensors for the brakes, a lot of times you might get some corrosion on the connections, this happens a lot with the seat cut out connectors, that wont let the mower run unless your sitting on the seat. If you undo the electrical connector and take a little bit of fine sand paper across the metal tangs inside then this will give you a good clean contact point. You should be able to find more info online without to much searching around
