Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Both would be equally positive examples of community involvement. Choose whichever appeals to you the most.

What part of the country are you situated? If Dublin then you can rule out Civil Defence. Order of Malta you can usually just turn up to a training night and ask to join. You can then attend the weekly training sessions (without actually being a member) and will be put on a course whenever the next one pops up. They have lots of branches around Dublin. Order of Malta takes a break from training sessions over the summer afaik.

Civil Defence doesn't usually work like that i.e. you can't just turn up and expect to be allowed join. Also turning up and asking usually isn't the procedure. You would need to contact HQ and they will put your name on a list and will contact you when they next recruit. DCD don't recruit anybody under 18, though other units around they country do. Dublin Civil Defence already done recruiting for 2014 back in January. About 60 persons were taken on out of well over 100 who were interviewed. The next intake won't be until 2015 but could be longer depending on manpower and financial resources. A tip would be that it is usually easier to join a civil defence unit outside of Dublin i.e. Wicklow or Kildare for example as you don't have the same numbers involved which makes it somewhat easier to get in.

In terms of which will be more beneficial I don't think it really matters. Both are voluntary organisations at the end of the day. If you need to join one asap then order of malta is the way to go. If you want to join civil defence then you may need to wait a considerable amount of time depending on what part of the country you are in and also pass an interview if in Dublin.
