Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gaggia question

Just wondering about the following. Ive just gotten a used Gaggia Cubika, it's not in bad nick and everything works ok. But producing a good crema is tricky as the portafilter seems well used and the coffee is splashing around and being disrupted. So I want to solve this, I see a lot about naked bottomless portafilters but can't seem to find one that will be compatible with the Cubika- do they exist ? If not then what is my best option- one of the double spouted ones with the curved spouts ? Any recommendations on brands ?

Apparently the Gaggia Classic portafilter will fit if your machine was made after 2005. A bottomless portafilter will allow you to see if you have an even tamp on the coffee in the basket, the number of spouts on a closed portafilter just allows you to place 1 or 2 cups under the spouts.

When you say the coffee is splashing around, what do you mean? is it escaping from the top of the closed portafilter or something else entirely?

Any chance you could stick up a video clip showing it in action as you pull a shot.

Sorry had forgotten I'd posted this. I've since solved the problem, there was a lot of gunk inside the portafilter below the basket so I scrubbed it away and the route for the coffee to travel is less cumbersome.
In any case I got gifted a decent used Classic a few days ago so am going to sell the Cubika on. I'm gonna order a naked portafilter for the Classic it in any case, does anyone know if they are universal in size ? Are Faema a good brand? Happy Donkey have them bottomless for £27 which is as cheap as I can find them anywhere online, ebay doesn't seem to throw up a whole lot.

Also I'm going to replace the shower screen on it too. Is it considered good practice to install a new group head seal while I'm there or best to leave them till they actually start leaking.
