Folks there a few dog parks in Dublin all the ones I know are in public parks, just a fenced off area with no real facilities although one in marlay has benches to sit on, presumably so people can not exercise when their dogs do. I'm sure the council are the people you need to tap up regards getting a dog park put in. It can't be a very expensive venture as its only really fencing from the councils point of view, although there might be some insurance liability too.Make sure its big enough as Ive seen one thats far too small and isn't much use. Best of luck with your push.

Seen this the yesterday, willing to give a hand in any way, I live well outside the city but I've 2 dogs who'd love a bit of socialisation. I've a few contacts who could probably help with this.

Just a suggestion - there is a big empty green space that could be used for this in raheen albeit some sort of car park maybe needed to be built with it.

Vartry field is huge and could easily accommodate a dog friendly park. The area in the bottom left of the field could be used as a car park as it is generally not used at all and leads off the access road.

You could then use a portion of the LHS of the field for the fenced area.

Apologies mods for replying to old thread but it does have relevance.

Has anyone been to Mungret Park yet? I've been a few times and its a great amenity to have. Anytime I have visited there have been a good few dogs being walked. So it is accepting of dogs once they are on a lead. it's quite a good space, and there should be plenty of room available up by the overflow carpark that is well away from the playground/kids so not to disturb them too much. I was thinking of asking the council if they would consider making a dog friendly (enclosed area) up there. Anyone think its a good idea?

Don't know Mungret but as dog lovers we should IMO NOT be campaigning to have tiny enclosed spaces ala 'dogparks' for our use like the bleak Marley Park dogcube or the mudbath that is the old basketball court in St Annes. Dog lovers pay taxes which go towards the upkeep of our parks the same as everyone else & we should be able to enjoy these parks & play & run in them with our children & play ball with our dog or chase about as families the same as those who choose to kick footballs around or play hurling or do yoga or have picnics. Dogs are an jntegral part of our culture and way of family life & this should not be taken from us nor our use and enjoyment of parks forbidden or serverely restricted because haters and those culturally insensitive to our way of life are in charge. Perhaps these people should be removed from their roles if they are unable to do them properly because of their prejudices. Parks are for the enjoyment of ALL - including dog lovers. We all need to be considerate of others and able to use them. I would like to see parks policed by wardens for junkies and alcos & needle users - not families with a pet dog playing in the grass.
