Education doesn't mean sh1t, the country hands out Masters and PhD's to any old Tom, Dick and Harry.

Some of the dumbest people I've met have multiple degrees and post docs

It sure is, when you try and have an educated conversation with someone and they throw their toys out of the pram when they don't get their way and get touchy.

back in my day they didn't have "levels", it's education, not mario

I've a degree and a professional accounting qualification.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,532 ✭✭✭Lou.m

    I have a Level 8 uni degree.

There was another thread about leaving cert points a while ago....is this cuz the leaving is on??

    Why do people care?

You do it for yourself or for your career etc.

It's only insecure people either boasting about having a degree or boasting about not having one and having a degree in life who go on about this.

No idea what all the levels are, so, let's say the middle ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,194 ✭✭✭Corruptedmorals

Level 8, which was eh not very useful. I just finished an unrelated level 5 and landed a full time job (and a previous part-time job in the field). So up yours my level 8 degree :p

No idea what all the levels are, so, let's say the middle ones.

    Level 7 is a degree
Level 8 is an honours degree
    Level 9 is a masters
    Level 10 is a doctorate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

I've got a ****load of Udemy courses to complete from the bargain alerts thread. They must be at least level 9 right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,166 ✭✭✭Tasden

Level 8 but currently doing a level 6 which is more specialised for the job I'm in so hoping it will get me a better job in the future than the level 8.
My goal is to eventually do a masters when I have the finances but don't see it happening any time soon

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,987 ✭✭✭Legs.Eleven

Level 8 but going back in September to do a level 5 which will get be into a level 9 if all goes well.

A PhD. But please don't call me Doctor. Ok, go on so. If you insist.

Masters - proving useful to date.

So, what, your official title is Micky Doctor? :pac:

I've a PhD and yes, it is the only reason I have my my current job.

PhD which essentially means diddly squat. Essential qualification for the career path I plan to take, and I learned a lot of transferrable skills, however in my current job I would probably benefit from a refresher course in junior cert science, so I don't know which option to choose!

I am also considering doing a masters in clinical sciences to increase my chances in securing approval to design and implement some more clinical studies.

Education is a means to an end. I use it to better myself professionally, but it has absolutely no impact on me (or anyone else) as a person. We're all the same height lying down.

    OK, I'll ask, what's level 6 then?:o

So does everyone have to achieve the Junior Cert. You can't leave education without it?

Intelligent and educated are two very different things, so the poll cannot answer both.

I often meet people who are educated above the level of their intelligence.

I finished my PhD before any of these level 6, level 7 etc designations came in to use. I am educated yes. Intelligent? I don't know!

It's not what level you've got but where you got it that matters.

I did my primary schooling at OLV in the 60s and 70s.

Probably worth a post Doc now. :pac:
