    oops!!!

Thats the 50km American record which she plans on taking down later.

50 mile American track record is 6:07, road is 6:09.

The 100k world record holder, Takahiro Sunada, has a 2:10:07 marathon PB, which makes him a pretty good marathon runner in my view. I do wonder what a sub-2:05 marathon runner could do but you can never tell in advance. All good 100k runners have to be pretty good marathon runners but not all good marathon runners make a good 100k runner. History is full of 100k attempts by cocky marathon runners who ended up in pain, tears and even hospital.

Just spotted this. For reference, Don Ritchie's track 100k was 3 mins faster than Sunada, but his marathon best only 2:19. He wasn't bad at real ultras either, his 24hr best was 267km indoors.

Read his autobiography recently, it's a litany of injuries and illness!

Some great running from Court Dauwalter at the Soochow 24hour race in Taiwan at the weekend. She set a new American record, 256km, and only 3km off the world record set by Patrycja Bereznowska in Belfast.

And that after running the 24 hrs in Belfast in July, winning the Run Rabbit Run 100 in September despite going completely blind over the last 10 miles :eek::eek: and winning the Moab 238 miles race in October :eek:, never mind the things she did earlier in the year like running 155 miles in a 24 hrs in February.

Her recovery abilities are completely off the scale. I wonder if she and Enduro had the same maternal grandmother or something ;)

Is that not pushing it for some of these slow boats?

    What about HobbyHobblers maybe?

Not great timing as far as the Irish Champs is concerned. Being only one month after the Euros, hard to see how any of the Irish Team will be racing the Irish Champs.

And the Worlds in 2019 are on in July. A sneaky chance for someone to take the national champs title without having to run a national record considering the current standard being quite good.

They should move Irish Champs to autumn.

Actually they are most likely going to be in May. I have it straight from the source.

Think records will tumble next year. Should be a great race. A couple of very good brits are racing.

Sometime this month. There is a Facebook page. Search "Belfast 24" and it should get you to the page.

Zach Bitter is well on track to break the world 100 mile track record of 11:26.

He went through 50km 3:26 (6:40 pace). If he holds that pace he'll finish sub 11:10.

Camille Herron is well on track to break all record attempts. Currently 15 minutes ahead of the American track 50 mile.

Knocked over 9 mins off the 50 mile record and well on the way to smashing the 100k American Track record.
Exciting night ahead! Can't wait to see how she goes over the full 24...

Can't see her lasting the night.

You're probably right but hopefully wrong.
She said she would attempt the 24 hour at 100 mile effort. I think throwing caution to the wind on any first attempt is the best strategy. After that you've a little knowledge that will mute any courageous attempts at a brave effort.
As long as she finishes the race without pulling out due to ego or exhaustion then she'll learn a lot more from going out too fast rather than being conservative.

Having said all that lets hope she smashes the World 24 hour record.:)

Can't see her lasting the night.

Absolutely no chance of finishing this.

A few stats for perspective. Yannis Kouros 24hr mens WR is 303km which is 7:37 pace. Camille is after running through 50 miles exactly a minute per mile faster at almost 2:50 marathon pace, that sets her up to run 318 km in 24hrs. Now I know a fade is inevitable and that will come down but just shows how aggressive her early pace is. I'm starting to think she's not after the 24hr record but just wants a race to obliterate a few of the shorter distance records. If not, she's lost her mind as she only managed 7:15 pace for a 100 miles a few weeks ago.

Takes 100k record with ease and now in first place. Not sure has Bitter pulled out?

    Think you are right.

I made a mistake there confusing the road with the track record. Road is 5:38 and track is 6:09 or something like that. Still 6:50 pace which is insane.

She has slowed to 8' pace. It will be interesting to see how long she can keep it together.

  • Registered Users Posts: 100 ✭✭ultrawoman

Stopped at 12 hours 38 mins at 92 miles and got the 12 hour world record. She must have been in trouble seeing as she didn't go for the 100 mile record.
That'll learn her not to go out too fast next time ;)

Anyone see what happened or did she give a reason for pulling out?
