Take away the fact I've money on them and I still hope Germany win, especially for Klose who's been fantastic for them through the years, he's competed in 6 tournaments for Germany and finished in second or third in 5, it's about time he wins something and it'd just be cruel for him to finish second again in his last World Cup.

Oh Ronaldo.. You spoke too soon  smh.com.au/sport/world-cup-2010/world-cup-news/ronaldo-praises-klose-as-striker-concedes-defeat-in-record-goals-hunt-20100711-10557.html

At least when Ireland are being hammered in their next qualifier tournament we can truthfully say "it's just like watching Brazil"

We can now also cling to the belief that if Ireland could just host a World Cup we'd be able to get all the way to the semi final.

Was watching this here in Germany with about 12 others, all but 2 of them Germans. We were just shouting "What the fucck" most of the time. Sooo many fireworks going off outside for the duration of the match.

Of course, Ireland did reach the quarters without winning a game in 1990.

Aye, but the quarters is not the semis and with 3 points wins I doubt if we'll ever see that happen again.

3 points for a win wouldn't have changed the group standing. Might it have changed the match outcomes? Who knows?

In 1998, Chile qualified with 3 draws, so it has happened.

Match outcomes is what I was getting at. I think teams were happier to settle for a draw back then, and there is some evidence that average goals per game increased in leagues when 3 points per win was introduced.

On the other hand, other statistics I saw suggested that there was no change in the rate of drawn matches when it was introduced in England, so who knows.

Only 24 teams back then so only 8 eliminated at Group Stage. 4 of the best 6 3rd place teams went thru from the groups.

Much better with 32 teams, top 2 only going thru!

World Cup Fact. Argentina, Netherlands, and Germany have all played each other in the finals of the past World Cups. 1974(West Germany/Netherlands), 1978(Argentina/Netherlands), 1986 and 1990(West Germany/Argentina). Depending on who wins tonight, we'll be seeing a final of either 1974 or 1986/90. But for my sake I hope the Dutch finally win it.

Hoping for an Argentina win today. Not holding my breath, but hopefully it's at least a bit more competitive than last night.

Did a crazy bet 5-2 Argentina and Higuain to score first goal, 675/1, I bet €1, will spend it all on coke and hookers if I win in the spirit of After Hours.

Haha, I thought I was the only one who did something like this. I have 4:1 Argentina, Garay to score first.

It's dire. A stadium that's designed to look good for the people not attending matches.

How many times have the Argentina players been offside now? You'd think they'd try and stay on.

I predict either RVP or Robben to punch the ball into the back of the net, we can call it The Hand of Rob.
