    Slow day today :pac:

More cleaning, got as much of the crap off the firewall at the back, took out the power steering tank which was just sitting there anyways, for more room and took out the wiper motor to give it a wire brushing and derust the rusty bits

So pop the wiper cap, douse the nuts in wd40 or similar, and wait a few minutes

    13mm socket gets these off

    15pps43.jpg

then wind off the wipers and pull out the rubber grommets, they're seated into the body so just pop em out, this shows two 10mm nuts holding the motor in place along with the two on the bottom

    bdk66r.jpg
    2qu5fs2.jpg

After a bit of jiggling and wire disconnecting

    33zfgpw.jpg

Cleaned it up a bit too, and attacked the firewall, nice and shiny now! It's amazing what a wire wheel can do

    al66gh.jpg

Tomorrow its out with the pot scrubbers to get all the nooks and crannies

I've it planned at two years, because then I'll be able to get myself insured on it ;) But it might be done sooner, depending on the next while

Got a few things done today :)

Removed the brake master and tested a few areas with the paint i got made up, also the bay is 90% cleaned now, so hopefully I'll be prepping it by the end of the week

    Anyways pics!

To undo the brake master you need an 11mm flare wrench to undo the brake lines to it , I didn't have one so I used tescos finest 11mm wrench, worked just as good if not better, I've already undone everything in the next few pics

If the tank isn't empty like mine brake fluid will p1ss everywhere apparently, so the ol bently manual says to syringe most of the fluid out  whatever suits i guess, even with mine empty fluid was leaking out so i had everything undone so i could just yank it out and avoid too much spillage

Take a 17mm spanner to these guys either side of the vacuum booster

    27zfazp.jpg

Then undo the brake lines to the master cylinder

    208usgp.jpg

And don't forget this here pipe unlike me :o

    s4bcpf.jpg

    And result!

    o5w7qg.jpg

And a shot of the bay plus paint, try see where it is ;) Pretty much identical to whats on it, I should bloody hope so anyways!

    293zjgo.jpg

Gona get the rest cleaned, then prepping starts as soon as, then I'm taking a while off it as the ol repeats and stuff are soon

    Checklist ahoy!

Took the engine off to get a few bits done to it, ended up having a chat with the mechanic and he's letting me do it myself with him guiding me along the way, win! What was originally planned was a total engine rebuild, new head gasket, piston heads, rings, timing gear, the works, I let him have a look see and he said there's no point in doing any one that because they're all fine, and as the engine was running grand to start with, it'l be just wasted money

So here's whats going in new

    Water pump
    HT leads
    Distributor cap+rotor
    Oil pressure switch
    Water drainage cover
    Rocker cover gasket
Thermostat+housing (cannot find the housing anywhere) :(
    Oxygen sensor
    4 liters of 10w40 + filter
3 liters of gearbox oil, think it's 75w30, not too sure, genuine saab none the less
    And a power steering belt

Fun times ahead! Checking and comparing prices now so once i get a decent price, we're in business!

Spent this evening prepping the only visible part of the engine bay that will be seen once the engine is back in

Cleaned it up till it was literally spotless
A coat of adhesion promoter, because you can never be too safe
3 light coats of "filler" primer, done like so

    Light coat of primer
    Heat gun ran over it
    Let dry
Sanded wet with 800 grit wet&dry
    Dry
    And repeat

It says to leave for 24 hours before painting so here's what we have now

Started rebuilding the cv boots today although i got called short and i need a circlip pliers :(

Anyways! Start by cutting off the old clips with a pliers or something similar, and then a wire cutter to cut off the boot

    Result!

    25isvuq.jpg

Then comes the fun bit, you need to take a circlip out to get the cv joint off the shaft in order to stick on the boot, so get someone to help with this

    sqow9c.jpg

Get a long nose pliers and open the clip, while the other person pulls the shaft out and there you go :)

    14njsz6.jpg

Next I cleaned it and got the new boot, clips and grease ready, so slip the boot on, pack the cv joint full of the grease you get, in the manual it says use the whole tube, so i used the whole tube, work it into the joint and slips the boot over and make it fit down into the grooves :) i took some of the new grease and ran it around lightly around the inside of the boot and stick it on

    72g7lc.jpg
    k2jx53.jpg

Then get your clips, and fit them, then crimp them together and there you go!

    16m0q9v.jpg

Then I went to the inner boot and cleaned it up and was greeted by this :o

    2cpxsw9.jpg

Again, need a circlip pliers to get this one done so more fun and games tomorrow!

    More fun and games today

I got my list of parts delivered the other night so with the engine sitting in my mechanics shop i headed over to him and got stuck in, with him helpfully showing me along the way, I had a fair idea of what to do, but it's little things he pointed out that really made the difference, It was a rather pleasant experience i must say!

So first things first, the thermostat and housing so two 12mm screws does this and off she comes

    sdfhcl.jpg
    7143u8.jpg

    Thermostat was fecked

    juvdiw.jpg

So I took some 240 grit sand paper to the surrounding area, cleaned it up and done the same with the housing, then stuck on some dirko sealant

    sy00lt.jpg

Put the stat and housing back in, job number one done

Next up, the distributor cap and rotor

Start by labelling the leads and where they go on the cap, this is important for knowing which goes into which again

    2m6sf3c.jpg

Then unplug them all, undo the clips for the cap and you'l be greeted by the rotor

    2lvedt3.jpg

Pull this fella out, and replace the new one, but the tricky bit is to put the pin inside it on the opposite side to the groove on the shaft it slots onto

    See heyor

    255jmh5.jpg

Stick on the cap, only goes on one way, and plug everything back in

    n3ktpe.jpg

Next up was the water drainage block, this was eh...fun

Located under the exhaust manifold, held in by three 12mm nuts, to make life easy I moved the power steering pump out of the way, the belt was off so it just moved, undone the three nuts and nothing

    rthrut.jpg

So a quick tap of a mallet.....and I got drowned, que the rest of the people in the garage getting a good laugh

    qss13r.jpg

The remnants of the old plug+crap inside

    2j425au.jpg

Then I had to take off the plugs to put in the new one, obviously, got the plugs out, and the whole housing fell apart

    2dr53s1.jpg

So I cleaned up the plugs, the threads and gave them a general scrub, and fitted them into the new housing to see if they'd fit, they did, out with the dirko!
First off clean the surface on the block with some sand paper to get it clean and free of the old sealant/gasket

Small bead of dirko around each opening and tighten the plugs in, we also put some on the back of the main plug to really seal it all up and then around the "mating face"
Then bolt it back up to where it belongs

    2ryptz5.jpg

After this I done the water pump, which I'll stick up in a while ;)
