Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd seriously doubt Cole was on 175K a week.

AFAIK the highest earners last year were

    Hazard 185k
    Torres 175k
    Terry 150K
    Lamps 150k
    Eto'o 120k
    Cole 120k
    Cech 100k

Just done some Google searchs and the widely accepeted figures are

    Hazard - 185
    Torres & JT 175
    Lamps 125
    Cole 120
    Cech 100

Had a quick browse, one of my first posts in a Chelsea thread, I was hoping that sturridge would get more game time as Drogba and Kalou would be at the ACN. :o

mine is more recent but sum's the 2 players up quite well

'ivanovic and luiz seemed to be in a competition of who could hit the top tier of the stand from long range'

2014/15 Fixtures are going up tomorrow.

Hoping we've a handy start but a top 6 team in the first 5 games, home or away to see where we are.

Or alternatively, start at home to QPR.

Cole was on 120k since 2009, his contract was up last season and he most certainly got a pay rise. It wasn't an extension because he was pushing for more money because he could leave on a free.

I dont doubt ya but the articles I found were labelled Aug 2014, whcih would have been after the extension.

Dya have any link, I just find it hard to believe that the club would pay him that money at his age.

I certainly don't think it's 200k a week, but he was very close to joining PSG, who would have offered huge wages and a signing on fee. I think it's definitely the main reason he isn't being kept on another year though. The main reason it took so long to sort out and initially looked like he wasn't going to stay was wage demands, think he wanted a little parity with the likes of Terry.

Ha ha I am hoping QPR away and a big big win set the tone for the season for us and them.

Lukaku had very little of the ball, subbed off now.

Lukaku subbed off after 58 minutes. Barely had a sniff, although Belgium have been poor.

Yeah have been a little disappointing, picking it up now tho.

Nothing in De Bruyne's performance to prove CFC's decision to sell him wrong. Lukaku not up to much. Carrying an injury? Hazard got better in fits and starts as the match progressed. Demonstrated his class with the weighting and timing of the pass for Mertens' goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Ramires and Oscar start. Was hoping Willian would have played on the wing instead of Ramires.

Oscar with a great ball....fred just offside.

They've made a better start to this than they did with the CPO vote anyway.

Excited to see what comes of it.

Oscar off for Willian, Brazil looking poor but Ochoa has had some night.

It would always be better to stay at home IMO, the emirates is a fantastic stadium but it'll never have the charm of stamford bridge or highbury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Theyve approached it with a bit more caution anyway with their statement.

I wonder have they been given some encourgament to do this by the council.

Surely they wouldnt waste their time unless they thought it was worth it.

It looks good on paper what they're proposing and maybe the promise of easing traffic congestion around match days/nights will help any potential plan if we get it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,603 ✭✭✭grumpymunster

There was always a chance with the change of council in the recent elections that if properly handled then we might get somewhere. The club does seem far better run now (business wise) than it was say in the last 5-10 years so you would be confident it will be handled well.

Serious money area around our ground though so you would expect a lot of challenges before any type of expansion would be accepted, then there is the small matter of cost. Even though it is on the wrong bank of the river I would have loved the old Battersea Power Station site.

    opening weekend

    Burnley v Chelsea

Sunderland at home is final game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Theres no two ways about it, if we want to increase revenue, getting more people into the ground is probably the main way to do it.

41,780 is tiny compared to our rivals, its about the 8th/9th biggest ground in the EPL.

I dont know how they'll expand but knocking the hotel is probably the best option.

In amoney saturated with money, we're the main event, Chelsea bring in great business for 20+ games a year, granted the traffic issues on match days must be a nightmare for anyone living in and around that area and it will have to be addressed.

To up the attendance by about 15K, stamford Bridge will have to undergo a huge overhaul, the West Stand has a height restriction and is documented that ot wouldnt meet todays health & safety standards due to how steep it is, there is plenty room behind the east stand to come back another 50-75ft, but if the entire stand was to be re-designed for H&S, I cant imagine the extra few feet would make a difference regarding seats.

The hotel on the east stand is a bo**ocks and a real hinderance, maybe thats where must of the extra seats will be located but knocking the hotel and building on site would take longer than the few months we've off between seasons so a temporary move maybe the only option.

Just have to wait now for the European Rugby Cup fixtures to be announced expect to be in London early December so either Chelsea v Spurs or Hull and Saracens V Munster would be pretty cool.

I remember feeling dirty winning that Wigan game with Crespo's last minute winner.

Last year we had the easiest run in and made a bo**ocks of it, this year we've a hugely touhg run in, Utd (h), Arsenal (a), Liverpool (h) in the last 6 games.

That was a great strike, remember we beat Birginham 3-2 a few years back, we also struggled agaisnt Hull last year after going 2-0 up early enough.

Burnley wont be an easy game, first game promoted the atmosphere will be electric.

One of the Cork lads is playing with Burnley the last few years, I dont know him but I've friends who are friendly with him alright.

They beat Man U in one of their first home games the last time they were up. Man U were champions too, iirc.

To be pedantic Azp and Torres are ours too :pac:

I just dont think Spain will win it.

Apart from Germany, who played well in patches, none of the "favourites" have played too well.

Tonight is make or break for Spain, a draw is nohelp and will more than likely see Spain go out unless they can manage to overturn a big GD in their last game and Netherlands lose to Chile as I expect Netherlands to beat Oz later.
