Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Diego Costa got 2 1st choice votes by coaches and captains for the Balon D'or.

One was Godin the other, Montserrat captain Anthony Griffith whi gave his 2nde vote to Hazard, must be a Chelsea fan :pac:

Silva and Luiz have no place in that team.

Where were Godin, Hummels or Garay?

They are better than Luiz or Silva.

    You're asking the wrong person.

Those awards dont mean much anyway, must be nice for the players to win but I've nothing but a passing interest in them.

It'll be interesting to see how the 2 best cbs in the world do against us in the next few weeks though.

If Zouma becomes half the player Desailly was he'll do very well for himself, great man to learn from though in JT, who learned from Desailly himself.

Last time we played swansea costa got a hat trick another return like that on satuday would be huge for us.

Our last 5 away games makes for painful reading too, 5 points from 15 is the reason why City have caught us back up in recent weeks.

    Spurs - L - 5-3
    Soton - D - 1-1
    Stoke W - 0-2
    Newcastle - L - 2-1
    Sunderland - D - 0-0

We've to seriously start winning away points

100% home record has flattered us in the last 4-6 weeks, its the main reason we're still top.

    1) City have 24/33 pts away 7W, 3D, 1L
    2) Chelsea 19/33 , 5W, 4D, 2L
    3) Spurs 17/33 5W, 2D, 3L

That is currently the top 3 in away form, that shows how poor every team is away, bar City, IMO.

    Some of the rest below.

    5) Arsenal 15/33
    6) Pool 15/30
    8)Utd 12/30
    20) QPR 0/30 :pac:

We're lucky our home form is perfect.

    1) Cheslea 30/30
    2) Utd 25/33
    3) Soton 23/33
    4) City 23/30
    5) Arsenal 21/30
    10) Pool 17/33
    11) Spurs 17/33

WE've got the joint best GF at home, 24 with Soton and the best GA record at home, with 3, 2 of which were scored by Swansea.

We've pulled out of the Turkish Airlines deal and Yokohama is going to be our new one apparently.

I've always liked the 2011/12 jersey, the UCL winning one, my least favourite was the one that followed it, the one with Gold crest and stripes. :o

Found out from a mate in London, its 100% though he's involved with the club. They had representatives at the club for the game on Saturday.

Paying £10m more then Turkish Airlines apparently, and it'll look better on the shirt.

Any idea on what TA were willing to spend? Also any idea if it was 10million more a year or 10million more over the duration of the deal which wouldnt be as impressive for say, a 5 year deal.

£10m more a year. Hearing its between £35-40m per annum. The Turkish Airline deal was reported to be about £25m

The Samsung deal was a reported £20million a year after bonuses and targets, I think it was a basic £15million which is tiny when comparfed to our rivals.

As I said, I'm not pushed whats on the jersey as long as we get paid a pretty penny, another Asian sponsor though will keep the Asian market hopefully expanding.

Yeah, apparently Delta Airlines were not happy about the Turkish Airline deal being lined up as their already signed for the next few seasons AFAIK, so it would make sense. Samsung are also going to stay with the club with some capacity. Gazprom in the running for it but not likely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

    Forgot about Delta actually.

Imagine the uproar if Gazprom came on board as the main sponsor? Roman had links to them previosuly, not sure if hes sold his stake or not.
They're still a huge UCL sponsor and not stuck for cash, I welcome our dodgy Russian sponsors :pac:
Samsung could stay on as an official technology partner or some such BS title that sponsors get now adays.

Like Rotary are our "official timekeepers", something along that line.

    Luis to LB so?

Big test for him, he'll probably play the next 4 games anyway, 1 league and 3 cup games and Dave will be back for the City game.

He was shocking against Southampton. Needs to step it up.

he had a good 2nd half against newcastle , i think he's good when we are going forward but not a great tackler (the modern fullback)

If fit would say Ake will get a game in the FA cup at least would imagine Christensen will get another run out in the cup too. We really are paper thin in defence.

Good player but possibly needs a few games at this stage, second rest for Dave this season lazy bugger ....

Well we should beat Millwall or Bradford with relative ease regardless of who we play.

Millwall make it a very intense game so I'd prefer Bradford.

That should see wide spread changes, play a young team mixed with experience for the FA cup, we can rotate for the Liverpool games and full strength for City would be my hope.

So go strong as possible against Swansea

    Cech
    Ivan Zouma JT Luis
    Matic Cesc
    Willian Oscar Hazard
    Costa

For the Liverpool game at Anfield (1st leg) Tuesday

    Cech
    Ivan Zouma Cahill Luis
    Mikel Ramires
    Salah Oscar Schurrle
    Remy

    So the FA cup (bradford/millwall)

    Cech
    Zouma Christensen Cahill Luis
    Ake Mikel
    Ramires Baker Salah
    Drogba

That would be my 3 line ups for the next week.

Surprising stat I've seen on Twitter so not sure if its true.
Chances created in the penalty area this season (up or down on last season).

    Man City 11.8 (up 0.1)
    Arsenal 9.2 (up 0.5)
    Chelsea 9.2 (down 0.7)
    West Ham 8.7 (up 2.0)
    Southampton 8.4 (up 0.5)
    Liverpool 8.3 (down 1.5)
    Man Utd 7.5 (down 1.4)
    QPR 7.4 (promoted)
    Stoke 7.3 (up 1.4)
    Newcastle 7.0 (down 0.1)

So if its true, had we a good CF last year we'd have had about a billion goals :o

Weird to see that this year even do we've been wasteful in some EPL games its actually not as bad as last season which makles it even more grim to see that last year we ran riot in some games and kept f**king up.

Hope we change that this year in the next 4 months, create more and score more.

Our record last year at the end of January was

    P 23,
    W 15
    D 5
    L 3
    GF 43
    GA 20
    GD 23

So far this year with 2 games to go in January (Swansea & City)

    P 21
    W 15
    D 4
    L 2
    GF 46
    GA 19
    GD 27

Thats a decent improvement, only 1 point down on last year and already up on goals and equal wins, it was around this stage last yearf we went on a good run, we could do with that again this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Another interesting stat from last year is, last year, at home our best run at home was 5 wins on the bounce, it happened 3 times over all and the 6th game was a loss or draw.

We're already up on that this year with 10 home wins registered already.

Oh and Diego Costas 15th league goal against Newcastle, topped last seasons top scorer, Eden Hazard who had 14, all by January. What makes it even better, if he stopped now, his total would make him our top scorer in half of the last few years. I think Costa should push on to 20 and see where it goes from there, give his strike rate of a goal every 100mins, if he keeps that up he'll finish very close to Drogbas 29 league goals of 2009/10, our last title winning side.

    League goals only.

    2014/15 : Costa 15 - January
    2013/14 : Hazard 14
    2012/13 : Lampard 15
    2011/12 : Lamaps/Sturridge 11
    2010/11 : Malouda 13
    2009/10 : Drogba 29
    2008/09 : Anelka 19
    2007/08 : Lampard 10
    2006/07 : Drogba 20
    2005/06 : Lampard 16
    2004/05 : Lamapard 13

That's a fairly mad one? Was the scoring just really spread thin that year?

We only scored 65 league goals that year, which IMO is terrible. Finished 2nd to utd in the league and UCL.

The same year we won more away than at home (H 12W) (A 13W)

    How times have changed :pac:

It just goes to show how important Costa is for points and not just Costa but a goal scorer.

Isnt moving much either for the players around him.

Same as. Mental that Big Sam was nearly sacked last season. West Ham look a good side with real powerful.

Andy Carroll is abit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Think he's as effective as any striker on his day and when he's used right.

Yup. Solid at the back too.

If I was Martinez i'd be fuming at McGeady. Stupid challenge.
