I'm gonna wade in here as a third party and say the games are also way better now.

They were all massive games in the Benitez v Jose mkI days but christ, they were awful awful spectacles.

Agreed, Liverpool fan speaking. Awful to watch. Even the phantom goal match was totally dreadful, albeit ultimate enjoyable.

Costa - he's doing what he did in Spain, he'll continue to do it. I don't think he's psychologically damaged. It's just that he's worked out that acting up, stamping, spitting and various other theatrics put the opposition team on edge to the extent that it affects their concentration.

Lovely player, anyone would want him in there team despite his behaviour. He is always going to be hated by the opposition fans.

Hope he gets a 4 game ban to reign in his behavious as he should be able to live off his ability without the niggle. If he plays against City I don't think they have anyone available to deal with him. Kompany seems to be on the blink.

If the stamp was deliberate then no issues at all with a ban but put it to one side sides are basically polarised He is in a difficult position being fouled all game long in line with most good strikers. He does need to let them know he is there the same as defenders let the striker know.
I would hate to see some aggression taken out of the game. Filth yea by all means but let's have some contact at least.

Costa wont change at all at all.

Hes already got 8 yellow cards :pac:

Turns out Schurrle is going to Dortmund.

    Salah to Fiorentina on loan.

    Cuadardo for £24.7

I think there might be one additional signing signing. Can't see Mourinho letting 2 players go and only signing one given that we have a small enough squad squad.

I'd say we'll be ok, Salah & Schurrle were often out of the match day 18 altogether although 2 or 3 injuries would bring us down to bare bones.

    Cech/Courtois

    Azp/Ivan
    Cahill/Zouma/JT
    Luis

    Matic/Mikel/Cesc/Ramires
    Willian/Oscar/Hazard/Cuadrado

    Remy/Costa/Drogba

Thats 19 players, without Salah or Schurrle.

Its not great business though if we sell schurrle and loan salah and spend about 50million.

Is there a Chelsea fan in here that would go for a few pints with myself, a Liverpool fan?! We could chat about all that's going on at the moment and after, we'll go outside and slap the heads of each other. We could get someone to video it and upload it to both Liverpool and Chelsea threads to celebrate the rebirth of this rivalry. First pint is on me.

Schurrle is actually going to Wolfsburg, and not Dortmund.

Ah sure didn't Shreeeeeerrreeerrr accidentally put his boot through Lennons head once as well. Strangely FA found nothing to see here move on of course.

I'll miss Schurrle but he really wasn't himself this year.

He apparently lost close to 2 stone after getting a mystery virus after the world cup and has struggled to put it back on.

Truth is I reckon Jose is digging the various shyte storms enormously. Not, as some believe, because he likes being the centre of attention or just for the sheer devilment, but because it has a galvanising effect on the squad.

I remember when Jose first took the reins, the consensus outside CFC was that it was impossible for TSO to win silverware (particularly the league) because it's all about team spirit, grit and stuff that money can't buy. "You can't buy titles". Then he won the title and a million backflips were accompanied by the sound of "He bought the title".

But they were right. It is about team spirit. First time round he created a siege mentality. He convinced the team that the world was against them and got a fired-up reaction. The trouble this season too often has been preposterously talented players acting like show ponies. And then when the fight does come, they're not up for it.

The fire storms suit Jose just dandy. The team's got its bite back. Keep it up and the silverware comes.

It depends on summer deals, if we can sell Schurrle and Salah for about a combined 35-40 Million, Cuadrado is going cost about 25, leaves 15million to spend thats "free" for FFP. Although in the summer we've got sales for guys like Moses, Marin, maybe T.Hazard lined up too I'd imagine so we'd probably have another 10million between those 3 so that means we've probably got another 10+15million to spend on a talent now or the summer, I dont know if theres a player out there we can get for that price that will improve the team greatly.

Lets just hope he can do the business, from my limited time watching him, he reminds me sort of like MAlouda, direct, pacey not afraid to beat a guy and has a decent shot.

The only problem is Jose could be well up for it, so will JT & Cech they played for him before, Ivan and Costa too, theyre warriors, that means the rest of the squad have to get their act together and as you said, stop being show ponies. I'd gladly win the next 10-12 games by the odd goal and half a dozen clean sheets, to win the league, theres no point scoring 4 or 5 ion a game if you go and drop points in the following few games, we need good consistency away from home.
He goes too far. I believe we can win it on talent and not mind games

Hes always on the edge in terms of what he spouts, sometimes its genuinely brilliant other times, baffling.

I half-watched the Fiorentina Roma match last weekend and while he didn't have an outstanding game, he was involved a lot at the top end of the pitch and he looked a very comfortable player. I didn't get the impression he was pushing himself too hard but I was impressed. He didn't seem to have any trouble dealing with the Roma defenders.

Again I was only half-watching it and it was the only time I've seen him play so it's far from a conclusive review.

Dan Levene has plenty of tweets regarding the CPO and their meeting today, mentioned that the CPO have met with the architects for the proposed new development of SB but have only discussed the surronding area/streets and not stadium design/capacity.

He said nobody from the CPO has contatced the new, local council about the development but hes unsure if the club have.

Too many tweets to mention but theyre the biggest ones I can see.

Biggest joke of a decision ever! How can they say that the first 'stamp' on Can was intentional when he's not even looking at him!

He shouldn't have got any....and I say that as a Liverpool fan!

Btw am I right in saying both Shearer (kick in the face of Lennon) and Rooney (elbow in face of McCarthy) were cleared by the FA of violent conduct??

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭weiland79

I'd still be confident of getting at least 7 points from the next 3 games, It's just frustrating having our CF sidelined. I'd say you're well pee'd off Gav not seeing him tomorrow.

    Shearer was cleared

I think Rooney wasnt even charged by the FA, although I'd have to Google it.

The 1st one was more blatant than the 2nd but as I've said yesterdsay its hard to legislate for both, I mean he doesnt put any extra downward force in his movements so to say they were stamps is a bit of a stretch, IMO, both were natural movements.

Were the clumsy, yes, of course they were, he landed on two people but I dont think he set out too stamp them, otherwise he would have put more force behind one or both incidents.

The only saving grace is he didnt get the extra game.

TBH, if we win tomorrow I couldnt care less.

We could start with Torres up top, a win is a win at the end of the day.

I'm trying to get over towards the end of the season so hopefully I'll see Cesc & Costa at some stage. :o

I don't remember the Shearer incident.

Rooney got away with it because the ref 'dealt' with the incident at the time. The PL are pretty consistent with regards that.

The fact that they banned Rooney for swearing into the camera after scoring a goal, when there was no precedent to do so, would show they're not afraid to charge English internationals.

Rio Ferdinand's missed drug test ban was also disproportionate to bans handed down for similar offenses in the past.

They had no problem finding Terry guilty of using racist language despite a court finding him innocent.

I think anybody going down the 'FA are unfair towards foreigners' route are misguided.

Well I'm glad he didn't get the extra game because I'm heading over to burnley and I missed him at the Maribor game.
For what it's worth I beleive them both to be intentional stamps and my only issues are the fact that other players get away with similar or worse offences .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I think once youre charged by the FA theres very little point contesting the charge, the chances of getting off or reduced are practically zero.

Consistency is a key thing here.

The main ones I can think of both involve Aguero who got away with 2 worse stamps IMO.

How that wasnt a ban I'll never know.

Theres also this one on Noble, not as bad but he still stamps on him.

    Sergio-Ag-ero-004.jpg

AFAIK he got away with the Noble one because the ref seen it.

It still doesnt take away the fact that he stamped on someone.

IMO both are far worse than Costas "stamps"
