Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd be seriously pissed off if we sold Schurrle, hopefully nothing in it.

I cant see us selling one of our brightest stars.

I think Schurrle will push past 10 league goals this season which would be a big plus for us.

If I was to guess or be hopeful at our goals return I'd suggest the following.

    Costa 15-20 (likely) - 20-25 (hopeful) - 25+ (very hopeful)
    Drogba 5-10 (likely) - 10+ (very hopeful)
    Torres 5-10 (likely) - 10+ (very hopeful)

    Hazard 10-15 (likely) - 15-20 (hopeful) - 20+ (very hopeful)
    Schurrle 5-10(likely) - 10+ (hopeful)
    Willian 1-5 (likely) - 5-10 (hopeful) - 10+ (very hopeful)
    Oscar 5-10 (likely) - 10+ (very hopeful)
    Salah 1-5 (likely) - 5-10 (hopeful) - 10+ (very hopeful)
    Cesc 1-5 (likely) - 5-10 (hopeful) - 10+ (very hopeful)
    Ramires 1-5 (likely) - 5-10 (hopeful) - 10+ (very hopeful)

The rest of the team including defenders and people like Matic, Mikel, MVG will probably push 10 goals between them.

So by my calcualtion we'll get between 59 and 95 goals, truth is its impossible to guess but I'd say it'll be in the 80's with under 30 left in.

Wonder will Hazard take penalties or will Costa take them....

Hazard's been brilliant on penalties for us in fairness. Until he starts fecking up his thing of sending the keeper the wrong way, he should stay on them

Would be nice for Costa to take them and have our striker getting a few more goals I think....

If Cech was a good penalty taker I'd let him take them. Suarez didn't take them for Pool but still scored 30+

Costa is a good penalty taker though.. I dont know how many times ive seen a striker in a poor run of goalscoring form finally get a goal from the penalty spot (im thinking the likes of Rooney and RVP)... imagine if Torres could have taken and scored every penalty that Lampard did, might have given a confidence boost and his long runs of not scoring wouldnt have been half as bad.

I know thats not a great example as Torres never really took penalties anyway but I think its always good to try and get your striker on the scoresheet.

Let's just hope Costa won't ever need to take a peno for those reasons :pac:

True but with our record with strikers.... you never know.....

Our strikers signed since Abramovich bought the club have not all turned out to be much good for us...

Mutu, Kezman, Shevchenko, Pizarro, Di Santo, Sturridge, Torres, Lukaku and Ba all failed or were pretty ineffective strikers for us (the odd important moment from Torres and Ba aside)

Crespo, Drogba, Anelka, Kalou, Etoo are the 5 signed in that period that could be argued to be relatively successful.

Its an awful record of signing strikers. We really really need Costa to be a success....

I think Costa missed 3 penalties last year.

For me its Hazard all day, followed by Cesc and then Costa.

I'm in for that too and I have to admit I went for Costa. I hope he falls flat on his face but I don't think he will. With only Drogba and Torres in competition at no 9 he is likely to start most weeks and with support players like Hazard and Fabregas, he'll get plenty of opportunities to score.

I've went for Costa too, my reasoning is he should get to 10 league goals and give me 20euro worth of free bets so if I re-invest those bets wisely enough, I should break even at least.

Hes 11/2 with PP I think thats very short.

Also you could probably name 20 players that'll score at least 10 EPL goals this year, injury permitting, Aguero, RVP, Rooney, Costa, Giroud, Sturridge will all score at least 10 goals.

Just looking at our 4 biggest rivals, City, Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool.

The summer spending that I seen online and quoted in Euro is as follows

    1. LFC - 110m
    2. Chelsea 98m
    3. City 77m
    4. Arsenal 72m
    5. Utd 70m

Although in saying that I expect Utd and Liverpool to go and spend again.

We've only spend a couple of million.

Luiz, Lukaku, Ba would be making us back a rather large chunk of that money.

Jose 1st press conference is scheduled for 12.30.

He'll probably face a question or two about Cech/Courtois even though he said he wont tell the players until Sunday so asking at the presser is silly.

Another question, which foreginer will be axed/sold/loaned from the squad to comply with the EPL rules

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,563 ✭✭✭✭peteeeed

    press conf from twitter

Jose says the pre-season was long for him and his staff, and it is fantastic to be back to the real competition.

'I am not saying I am nervous or feeling something special, I'm just happy to be back to competing and the players are the same.'

We have bought some key players having analysed our squad and we believe. These new players bring us to another dimension.'

'Yes we are a title contender. If you want me to say we will win the league I can't, because I respect this competition.'

'To win against Burnley is the first step, and to win against Burnley will be very hard.'

he won't name his goalkeeper choice for Monday as the players don't know yet but he says Chelsea have 2 of the 3 best in the world.

he's very happy with the make-up of the squad as it is - with experience & a significant number of players who are under 21.

he thinks basically there are six title contenders again this season, as he thought last year.

'I told my players today that every one of them in the squad, I am happy to have them.'

As the conference draws to a close, he makes some interesting remarks on the transfer market: "The market is open. You never know what can happen. You don't know the reaction of players in these last days."

    Pogba :D

Quick question for ye lads - Will Felipe Luis start for ye at left back? This is purely fantasy football related but just wondering what your thoughts are?

I reckon not this weekend. We've to win so I think Jose will pick what he knows so the team should read

    Cech
    Ivan Cahill JT Azp
    Matic Cesc
    Schurrle Oscar Hazard
    Costa

Thats what I'd go for although theres question marks over Schurrle or Willian on the right and Cech or Coourtois.

I've had a go of the Paddy Power top goal scorer offer as well.

Gav, greendom and RichT all on Costa. I know Peteeeed is in but not sure who his pick is.

Could be interesting to see how we get on with our free bets (If any ) and maybe have a little table of success/shame.

I'm in trouble in FF, I've to find replacements for Coleman and Kompany. On the bench, we have the wonderous Phillipe Senderos and Richard Dunne.

I hate the 3 player per team rule.
