Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Yep and looked fairly fit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Ya, theres no issue with his hamstrings I'd say he was burning fellas for pace all night.

If it wasnt for an excellent performance from the GK and terrible finishing this could have easily been 6 tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Beat Maribor home and away and we should be through and top of the group unless schalke do the double over sporting which will make the trip to germany interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Read a few reports on the game and the theme seems to be a 1-0 trashing and that our finishing has to be better we have to be ruthless and take those chances and put teams to the sword.

We're in a good position now but to many players played 90mns that might have been rested had we been 4 up at half time.

Ah overall was a good win last night, sometimes you come up against a keeper who has one of those nights and this was it. Upside second clean sheet on the trot and a win.

I thought Schurrle was awful from the get go he is so erratic it is not funny. Thought Ivan should have been subbed as well not sure if that knock he took in the first half affected him but at times in the second half Luis was playing left and right back at the same time, the amount of cover he gave Ivan was phenomenal. We really have to get him into the side he is an excellent player

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Well if theres any doubts about Ivan at least Dave got a rest last night so we'd have an actual LB against Arsenal with Dave starting RB.

Its difficult to guess the Arsenal team as is but I'd say it'll be, barring injuries,

    Syczensy
    chambers Kosclieny Mertesacker Gibbs
    Wilshire Flamini
    Sanchez Ozil Ox
    Welbeck

Maybe Sanchez or Oz will make way for Cazorla but I'd say at least 9 of that team will start, barring injjuries of course.

schurrle had a night where nothing went right and their keeper had a night where he could do nothing wrong.

from our side hazard was good but kept getting kicked , as did costa

oscar's work rate was excellent and fabregas and matic played well in the middle

I'd be dropping Schurrle for Sunday anyway, granted he scored against City, thats 2 in 3 games against them now but his finishing is so hit and miss its not even funny.

He missed a few in the WC too but still finished with 4 goals, he'll get goals but his decision making and finishing has to improve, he tried a header from the edge of the box last night when Costa was trying to take the ball down which showed how willing he was to amend his misses but he never really grasped the game.

I think Matic was peerless in CM, himself and Cesc had good games, always shifting the ball, very rarely getting caught on it, in contrast we hounded Sporting into mistakes left right and centre.

If Cesc and Matic are 100% for Sunday I'm confident, as a pairing theyre pretty good together.

    .

schurrle = super sub for chelsea and germany

Well if Oscar rolled his chance right to Schurrle he had a tap in early in the second half.

We had four 1on1 chances, Schurrle, Oscar, Costa and Salah, you'd throw money on at least 1 of them scoring.

    Draw 27

    Goals:
    Chelsea 110
    Arsenal 109

    Biggest home win
    Chelsea 6 - 0 arsenal - 13/14

    Biggest away win

Just looking at Joses record, when it gets to about March, in the last 4 seasons at the club his record is

    Year|Played|W|D|L|GD|Pts|Finished|
    04/05|30|24|5|1|48|77|1st
    05/06|30|24|3|3|39|75|1st
    06/07|30|21|6|3|35|69|2nd
    13/14|30|20|6|4|33|66|3rd

to win the league we're going to need 04/05 or 05/06 form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Also, Joses EPL record against Wenger is

    Played 11
    Won 6
    Drawn 5
    Lost 0

Hopefully the 0 stays the same this weekend and we go unbeaten at home all season.

Good performance last night to be fair. Our finishing is all that let us down. It was more comfortable than I expected.

We should beat Arsenal too, as we should win every home game with this team.

True, but I find it very frustrating that with so many technically gifted players we have that we struggle to be able to retain possession when needed to curb opposition pressure. At times last night, we just couldn't seem to retain the ball when pressurised and gave away possession too easily.
