Ah that would be quite the change. Where did you see/hear this, or just on the grapevine?

There's a public meeting about it in the maples Hotel next Monday.

That was great! I thought it was going to be too long when i opened it but it sucked me in :)

What drone were you using? I've seen one hovering around the area of Dr.Quirkey's Casino at night time, a few times, but didn't see any night footage in yours.

Is there anything that can be done about people breaking the red light at the crossroads in the centre of the village? It absolutely infuriates me. Nothing more so than when someone does it and you can see them on their phone while they speed through a red.

The junction is a nightmare to try and cross and is almost as dangerous when you're just standing there waiting. I saw a crash a few weeks ago where one car landed inches away from the entrance to Doyle's pub. If anyone had been standing there, they'd have been wiped out or used as a buffer between the vehicle and the wall.

Can anything be done? I'm willing to give up my time, my skill set, my anything that can help. Can warning signs be erected? A better CCTV system? Contact some politicians? Anything?

    Can something be done? sure!

Will something be done? doubt it, it's been talked about for years, Also i saw an article a few years ago on the journal with a survey about breaking the lights there https://www.thejournal.ie/red-lights-at-junction-in-phibsborough-1792532-Nov2014/

DCC currently developing a new public realm for the area incl Doyle's Corner.. phase 1 going ahead soon..and will invole traffic calming measures..
However bus connects plans may see big increase in general traffic going through junction...

    ..
    Can anything be done?

Absolutely. You can make a submission to the NTA seeking traffic-calming & pedestrian-friendly measures at Doyle's Corner. The Bus Connects project seeks to redesign elements of the crossroads but their plans fall way short of whats required. Their plans also involve diverting extra traffic (a lot of extra traffic) to Phibs.

Public Consultation closes this Friday March 29th for route 5 (diverted traffic), and on April 30th for Route 3 (Doyle's Corner re-design).

    Suggestion for NTA submission:
    • Install a raised pedestrian table at Doyles Corner to deter red-light running & taking the junction at speed.
    • Reconfigure pedestrian crossings at Doyles Corner as a wrap-around pedestrian crossing (all four lit together)
This upgrade was awaited under DCC’s 2016 Local Environmental Improvement Plan – but is being derailed by BusConnects Route 3.

    Submission here:

Scaffolding up at Doyle's corner on old bookies building (the only vacant corner)
    I wonder what's happening ? #exciting

The old ice rink complex is going to be a Jury's Hotel. That'll be a great addition to the village and such a useful amenity to locals

How on earth did this MM Capital press-release get printed by the IT? MM even had the audacity to imply that they were somehow restoring the existing Shopping Centre and sorting out the asbestos - which forms no part of their plan. They're just putting a stupid cage around the existing monstrous block, and building additional blocks next to it.

When I think about what the An Bord Planeala should have forced them to do with that site... gosh!

Shelbourne hotel group I thought ?

Jury's I heard. Either way, it's going to be a hotel.

Either way - a hotel won't offer us any amenity (except perhaps another bar/restaurant) unless there's a Spa/Pool/Leisure Ctr stipulated in the planning.

Knocking down the tower was never on the cards because of the Tesco. The developers don't own it.

That means if no agreement is reached MM would waste 15M?! I find that hard to believe, there must be smtg else behind this

Just based on the articles I've read it looks like from the start Tesco said we need X and Y. MM ploughed ahead without at least one of them and is now upset that Tesco have said we still need X and Y for this to go ahead.

Not sure if it's mentioned in the article but supposedly Tesco just want a 2 foot wall for deliveries or something to that effect.

Good to hear. That corner has let down the whole Doyle's Corner central junction of Phibsboro for years either as a shabby bookies or an even shabbier vacant unit. Hopefully something interesting and colorful moves in!

Just walked by , whatever it is it seems impacting the whole building and not just 1 storey. Very curious but no rumours at all around?!

I heard a whisper it could be a Dealz but I really hope not...a Fallon and Byrnes type Deli would be amazing...

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭hankless

Fallon and Byrne deli would be great. I really hope it's not a Dealz. There's a Euro Giant within sight and the other 'cheap things' shop a few doors up from Tesco. We hardly need another one, and it'll bring nothing of true value to the area.

footfall must be an issue for that corner - most pedestrians seem to cross on the other side of the street. That's just based on my own observation. I suppose if it's a good enough draw people will come.

A Dealz would be fairly depressing imo, I'd imagine Dealz would prefer to have somewhere to park a car nearby for customers

That unit would be way too small for a Dealz if I'm not mistaken? A Fallon & Byrne or Donnybrook Fair style food shop would be great alright. There are a string of those god awful "fake designer clothes fallen off the back of a lorry" shops between Loretta's and the old ice rink which I'd love to see replaced with better style shops. They really drag down the area. Also, there are way too many charity shops for every conceivable cause in the area. I'm not against charity shops per se as they do add a quirky vibe to a place but having an over supply of them doesn't help create a good retail mix.

God forbid that prominent site be made a Dealz!
I’ve said it before - and here it comes again: there’s a gap in the market for a BooJum / Pablo Picante branch in Phibsboro.
Further statements in this vein will issue until a phibsburrito is stuffed into me gob.
{as an aside, Kebab House, beside Rothar do a top notch kebab on naan baked as you wait. The chap that runs it is a lovely fella too, with his kids’ drawings up behind the counter, which is nice to see}.
    Burritos & Kebabs. I’m a classy guy.

They're all closed down. That's being turned into a hotel. The whole block after Lorettas down to the small barbers. A Jurys or a Shelbourne apparently.

Yeah I've often wondered how so many can coexist in such a confined area. There's no need for half of them, maybe even 75% of them. How can they all afford the rent and charges selling bric a brac for under a tenner.

Also I agree that there's a gap there for a Burrito place. That bookies would be ideal for it too. Not a fan of burritos or the over abundance of them in Dublin, but anything would be better than a Dealz.
