I knew I should have held off on this. Having serious flashbacks to "Spore". There's potential here, but as it stands it's just a skeleton of a much better game. Read it described as "an ocean of game, that's only pond deep". I feel that's fairly on the nose.

    1. If you have the Sony 7.1 wireless headset there's a profile for NMS (don't know if that was answered on this thread but know someone asked).

Hasn't appeared in my headset companion app just yet. Or is it a custom EQ preset you make yourself?

I'm quite impressed with it in theory. But when I play it (putting aside the illness bit) I'm not? I mean I get for example, you need to upgrade all your gear and sort out inventory and stuff before the game really opens up, but thats a not inconsiderable length of time the game needs you to tough it out, basically, before it gets good, if it does at all.

but...but...but they're charging the same price as a team that wrote GTAV or COD.

To be fair, that's a reasonable concern. I realise nobody is forced to buy the game, but for 60 euro, a consumer has an expectation of a certain level of polish and content.

I haven't played the game though, but I've heard a lot of people saying it's not worth the 60 quid, but maybe 30/40.

I think once you start upgrading your jetpack and sprinting, it gets a lot better/easier to gather resources etc.

I happened to watch 10 mins of a stream last night and I was bored to tears with it which is strange because I am enjoying my experience so far.

People looking in see "ah here, he's just going around collecting crap".... But the streamer in question is likely to have a goal in mind in order to upgrade certain things.

It's not without its faults for sure but some of the pay offs when you're exploring are incredible.

Yesterday I thought I found a really crap planet with nothing on it. Then over a hill I found a huge resource laden factory surrounded by mental robots and creatures.

It can be a slog but ultimately rewarding in some instances. That's my early feeling on it.

started last night having not read much about it. Just on the first planet. Spent 17 mins walking to something. I am assuming i've going to have to make the return trip to the starship.. Inventory management rather annoying

What are the ships like? Are there combat/trade/exploration specific ones?

Are they different from each other?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

All ships are functionally the same. They look different tho and have a different number of slots......so you can outfit one for combat or outfit for mining. Or both if it has enough room.

This is a very confusing post. The ships are functionally the same, except they look different, have different slots, and you can customise them to be good at different things...?

I'm not sure to be honest. I've only used one ship so far, as haven't found another with better storage capacity. They have different skins anyway. You can upgrade any ship to have better guns, shield, or rockets. I'm not sure if their base stats are all the same.

So essentially the only feature that matters is how much storage capacity it has.

Speaking of MP, has anyone found another planet that was discovered before you got there?

Yes, they are all functionally the same. You can perform any action on any ship making them functionally identical. Because there isn't a ship that has its own function....like say one that has more fuel or one that goes under water. Functionally the same. Differences in how they look are superficial differences not functional ones.

The extra slots can make it easier to store stuff but there are no upgrades that take more than one slot so you can do anything you want with any ship......making them....functionally the same.

I think aesthetics matter. You are going to be looking at your ship for a while. But it doesn't make a gameplay difference.

It would be nice if there were ships that could go underwater and others can't, or some that can enter a stars corona, skim much closer to blackholes, etc.

That's my worry. Spore was probably my biggest gaming disappointment. Promised so much, delivered a dumbed-down slogfest of a game.
Don't have the same fear here on the dumbing-down side, just worried whether there's enough to justify €60. If it was 35-40 I'd probably jump on it.

I'm really interested in giving this a go, nearly bought it last night but I just can't justify dropping 60e for it. It's a game that should realistically be 30-40.

Why do I get the feeling that if the game was originally €40 you'd be looking to pay about €25.

Not played the game yet (roll on Friday) but going by the wiki
    http://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Starship

There are three distinct classes of starships: Explorer, Fighter, and Trader. There are also AI ships which include wingmen and larger space craft than what the player can get. The appearance of a starship is directly linked to it's capabilities, so players will be able to tell what a ship is good at simply by looking at it.

    Explorer
Explorer starships have better engines and hyper drives than other ships, which allows for faster and further travel. They will also have better stealth capabilities to improve their ability to explore while remaining undetected. A rumored Science starship may exist, but it may also just be a subset of the Explorer vessel.

    Fighter
Fighters are meant for combat. For players wanting to fight in space battles, this is the starship for them. These ships have better guns and can take more damage than other ships. They are also lighter and more symmetrical in appearance.

    Trader
Trader starships, as their name suggests, are bigger and are meant for trading. They have a larger cargo capacity than other ships, allowing for more items and resources to be held for trade. They are bulkier and slower than the other types, but have heavy weaponry to compensate.

Watching the ACG stream and saw when he changed ship from the DLC one to something the looked like it came from Lexx, he noticed it was rubbish for combat but could carry much more items. Considering how much crafting and upgrading matters in this game, having ships just be cosmetic items would kinda suck.

For some reason I want that "Weapon Charge Depleted" voice as my text alert. Took me a while to figure out how to reload (so to speak) so I heard that a lot and now it's stuck in my head.

Do all starting planets have the Sentinels? They make harvesting resources a bit of a pain.

Each ship just has more or less capacity (inventory space). Ship ability is purely to do with the technology you put in the inventory. Thus, the ship is but a husk.

When you upgrade a tool what do you do with the upgrade icons? Can you delete them or do they have to be there in the menu slot to work?
