Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ancelotti for manager, as an earlier poster said being Italian is a huge help! The Brazil 82 team had some serious contenders. Socrates especially, to be able to smoke like a chimney and play the game so elegantly , now thats cool!

Fatih Terim as manager for me. He's emotive, but in a cool way.

Alonso is only in because he has a beard that never gets shaved.

Zlatans hair is too long to be a mans man.

Any love for Angelo Peruzzi in goal?

Afaik he broke a wrist in a game for Lazio with plenty of time left but saw out the 90mins. Proper hardman imo.

    Right, my final attempt

    Lahm - Maldini - McGrath - Lizarazu
    Socrates - Pirlo - Alonso - Zambrotta
    McBride - Berbs

Cannavaro out on the basis of appearing in semi nude pictures looking a bit smug. Also he had a hair transplant.

Can't pick a goalie. Tempted to go for Chilavert just cause of the free kicks but that's not really the point.

I'm kind of thinking 'if my wife left me for a goalie, who would I be most OK about it being?

    Maybe Casillas?

McBride? Am i missing something here? cant see it in the slightest!

Some shocking suggestions so far. Jamie Redknapp?

Dennis "The Iceman" Bergkamp and Paul ''show me a contract and I'll sign it so I can get back to playing football'' Scholes.

Just always thought he seemed like a no nonsense player who made a lot of the talent he had through just getting stuck in and on with it.

    Plus do an image search

It's either him playing with blood all over him or his amazingly hot wife

If we're gonna go through players playing with blood...there's a lot.
During his time in the first team, Carles Puyol has suffered 35 major injuries. He has had surgery four times, played with a mask on several occasions, has seen blood pour from his head and his arm twist the wrong way

    How about Cannavaro ?
The last defender to win the Ballon D'Or, also won a World Cup....is ridiculously good looking....and looks like a member of the Mafia when suited up

Carlo Ancelotti is worth a shout - if not in midfield, certainly as the coach. Hugely intelligent, comes across as hella easygoing, can get along with anyone, and wins stuff all over the shop.

    Yaya too, legend.

Also Sinisa Mihajlovic - questionable politics but legend all the same.

    Edgar Davids for his glasses.

For the remaining defensive position, maybe Passarella?

Demon of a player, and scored goals too.

Where I cant claim to be educated enough to comment on his football skill (sadly before my time) I think he can be eliminated by his forcing no long hair policy on the Argentina team when he was in charge. Bloody Batistuta with short hair?? He went from being one of the most feared striker in Italy to looking like a bus driver!

Could we maybe define what a "man's man' is.

I suggest that definition starts with "is not called Andrea".

Yeah, it's not clear what the OP is looking for. Some people are taking it to mean 'hardman' and others as 'suave'.

Roy Keane is a man's man but he's not cool as sh1t. David Ginola is cool as sh1t but he's not a man's man. There's too much of grey area.

Above XI is a good balance.

Don't agree with Edgar Davids, Alexi Lalas, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Vinnie Jones etc.

Man's man cool is understated, not brash or arrogant. An air of calm self-confidence is better. Man's man cool must be effortless.

    Has to be Pirlo.
