I'm the bravest person on boards. In real life I'm a coward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,648 ✭✭✭desertcircus

Unless I lose patience, on Boards I'm a lot more measured than in real life. There are comments and jokes I can make in real life, with people who know me well, that I'd never presume to make on Boards. I have no control over who sees what I post, so I try to ensure I don't speak in a way that could offend.

Thought it was a threesome. O_o

    EDIT:

I would never, in a million years, bring up any form of gender debate in real life.

Not sure why the internet brings out my argumentative side :P

I've been told I can be a bit of an arrogant ballbag in real life.

The first step is admitting you have a problem:D

Pretty much the same I think. Mostly. Least I think I am, suppose other people might see it differenky.

My real life jokes/humour may not be all that appropriate online though....

I know some posters may take exception to this post and think I'm bullshitting. Am 6'2", weigh 235 lbs, work out daily, don't do drugs (cigs, booze OR dope), try to follow the teaching of Jesus and am an affable, agreeable type of bloke.

In real life I'm 5'9", 215 lbs, not a gym-bunny, drink five nights a week, an Atheist, argumentative and a thoroughly objectionable sardonic piece of humanity.

Less mouthy in RL except when I'm very, very drunk. Less ranty. I let it all out on here as I do a lot of listening in my job and with friends. Besides from that, I'm myself on here, I think.

I'm actually a chick in real life.

    Oh god I'm not.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I am much better looking, more charming, more intelligent and far wealthier in reality than I am on here.

Most of the stuff I say in real life on a daily basis, I wouldn't dare post here or I'd have to perma-ban myself.

+1 on that. if i was to convey my usual words and opinions on boards,i wouldn't have lasted pissin time around here,Somehow I've managed to keep an account completely free of infractions/bans since i joined a couple of years ago and this my 1000th post i think

To start the ball rolling my own behaviour in After Hours is snarkier and if I don't like a single sentence that another boardsie types I ignore them. Also I have a great taste for shadenfroid or 'cold joy' for some posters in AH and in prison forum. In the real world gugleguy is such a nice guy. How about you?

I apparently very expressive in life. I can't hide anything in my face. My emotions are very apparent.

    Also through my voice.

A friend was saying that he knew I expressed myself a lot through my body.

There is a lot of my personality missing online. It does not come through. In real life there is more nuance.

Twitter is unusual...it can get like just your everyday thoughts when you get addicted.

Online is more ...hidden in life you can hide nothing.

People can totally miss the mark and interpret you incorrectly as a person.

Someone you think of as cold or harsh can seem softer when their body language is added or vice versa.

But really you would have to ask people who know me on both how I am different. Any boardsies who know me in both would have to say.

My sense of humour is the same I think...I dunno...you would have to ask someone else who knows me on both.

    Personalities have different aspects anyway.

This is one reason I love the online world of forums, comments. I believe it reflects how people REALLY ARE. In the physical world we all have to play roles, at different times and in different places.
Online, when people are anonymous, how people really think and really feel about things is thrown out to the world.
Yes sometimes it is OOT and sometimes it is offensive and abusive and angry. But I still think it is still a terrific thing to share and experience.

Less talkative, because life isn't a bunch of discussions and you'd be far less inclined to meet people off-line who say the mad sh-t to be found here!

It's not true that this isn't real life though - of course it is, unless everyone who posts is a robot. People make real-life friends here, meet partners here, events and organisations have been set up through here.
